Could you all spam me with information about psychiatric medication use during pregnancy. Particularly antidepressants but sources of information on others would be great as well. I'm not pregnant AND not on medication yet but some decisions are going to have to be made and I'd like to be armed with as much information as possible for a variety of upcoming discussions.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like. Obviously I'm not sharing a depth of information here so I expect some folks wouldn't want to either.

Thanks in advance.

I was on antidepressants my whole pg with #2. I took lexapro, trazadone, and seroquel. The benefits far outweighed the risks in my case.

No info for you, but sending you some prayers, regardless of if this is for you or not. I know these last few years have been tough. PM me if you ever want to get coffee/tea/tequila/beverage of choice.

Hey, search some old threads (in the last 3-6 months) if you can--this topic comes up quite a bit and all of us who have BTDT gladly respond!! I was on 100 mg of Zoloft and decreased to 50 with DC 1. After getting post partum "whacko" at 6 weeks, I called the peds and they said Zoloft was the best for nursing moms. So I bumped it up to 100 again. Later a JAMA report came out that listed several antidepressants as being a ok for nursing moms. I stayed on 100 mg for DC 2 and did not have postpartum difficulties. My MD has been in practice for a long time and has never seen a problem with it. MOst MDs will tell you the benefits out weigh the risks. Search PubMed for the paper on antidepressants and nursing. Good luck.

My "Search" skills evidently suck. I know there have been earlier discussions but I couldn't find squat. Thanks for the BTDT info.

I haven't personally been on antidepressants while pregnant but know of two moms who took them. On took Zoloft through her whole pregnancy and the other took Klonopin. Both continued on to nurse their little ones while on these meds as well! I took Lexapro after DS#2 was born and was very happy with it.

Try and find an MD or psychiatrist (sp?) who specializes in advising women who want to be on meds while pregnant. I did and found it very helpfull. I was on 100 mg Zoloft and 300 Wellbutrin and have a happy, healthy daughter who has a happy, healthy mom!

Here are 3 articles from Pub Med--I cannot seem to find the Journal of the American Medical Association Article--maybe if you just searched that journal. Here is the link for pubmed:

I have not read these articles, so I don't how well the studies were done etc.
