I've seen scant postings on VRBO, but are there any other sites I'm missing?

Has anyone had good experiences by going through these sites?

I've used www.cyberrentals.com for rentals in the USA. I used Rick Steves' books for extended trips to France and Italy. My experiences with vrbo and cyberrentals have been positive but I never rent without seeing a good number of pictures of the rental.

You might want to check Karen Brown's books. Some of the lodgings she lists have cottages, too, with kitchens, etc.

We live in Europe and have used Interhome.com for booking vacation rentals (mostly in France and Switzerland). We have probably used it close to a dozen times in the past 4 years and have never had any problems.

We have used the recommendations in Rick Steves' guides to find vacation rentals and have never been disappointed.

In France there is also this resource:

I got on the Fodor's travel talk chat board and every place we stayed in France was from that site. The gite reference somebody gave you was good. I could not find central place, you really had to google a specific area. I would try the Rick Steves chat board and I also liked Trip Advisor.

I've had good luck with Rick Steve's in both England and France. I was never disappointed. Be sure to mention his name when you book. In Italy, I used Tuscany Villa Rentals.
