I am going to be buying a camera for my sister's 40th birthday, but I am at a loss as to what to buy. A large LCD Screen would be nice, but of course, I would prefer higher MPs and a better zoom. In the past I have had a Sony Cybershot and did not love it. Currently I have a Canon S2 IS, and again, I am not in love. I really researched both of those cameras, so I don't trust my judgement! I just want to get her something that will take great pics and is portable. Oh, and if it came from Target, that would be a bonus, as I have 10% off there right now. Hope that someone can give suggestions. TIA.

That's what I have (in addition to my Nikon D50 dSLR) - and it's very nice - obviously not as nice as my Nikon but it's very handy and takes pretty nice pictures for a little point and shoot.

edit: btw...Target's "description" of it is wrong - it's 8.3mp not 5mp.

We have had several different versions of the Canon powershots and been very happy with all of them. If you're a Costco member, they frequently have pretty good deals on them online!

I have heard the Canon Powershots are really great. My brother bought my niece this camera and I was really impressed with the LCD size and how nice the pictures came out. They offer a 7 or 8 megapixel for a little more, too.

Yes, we have worn some out, but I use my camera a LOT! On my third one, would not buy anything else.

I got this one for Christmas: http://tinyurl.com/33nlkd. (Canon A570IS) It's more than 10% cheaper at Amazon than Target though.

It has a big screen and I find it takes pictures much more quickly than our old camera, which was a Canon A520 from about 2 years ago. With no flash, I am no longer missing the moment as I was before. It also has continuous burst mode, so I can capture multiple photos quickly. This is what was important to me, so that's what I focused on (ha ha).
