Is there a way to recycle old car seats?

I was wondering if there is a way to recycle expired carseats? I hate to think they are going into a landfill. Thanks!!

I haven't heard any sure-fire ways to do this...might just want to call your local recycling place and ask (they probably want to know the recycling number stamped on the shell, so look for that first). (Ps, I *should* know this, but I always pass my carseats along well before they expire... serious knowledge gap, I'll admit!)
