After lots (and lots...and lots...) of reading, I finally settled on a car seat for my second baby. I'm looking for a Graco SafeSeat in Ionic (or possibly another black color). Anyone know where the best deal online is? I've looked at so much my head is starting to hurt. It appears to be sold out nearly everywhere. Anyone know?

Thanks a ton! :)

Im just curious what do you like about that seat? Is this for a newborn?

This is a black print, but kind of girlie
Here (http://www.lullabylane.com/jump.jsp?itemID=4844&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=safe+seat) for 79. We are adopting a daughter who will be probably 20 or 22 pounds at homecoming. This is such a great price, but I'm just not sure it's worth a few months of use (I'm more worried about height than weight)

IMO I don't think it would be worth it because of the height, although I think it is greater on the SafeSeat than it was on the SnugRide, which is what we had. Anyway, I'm glad we had it for when my DD was small, but we transitioned her to a RF Marathon before she reached the weight limit because she was so long. Since your DD will be older/bigger when she comes home, you might just want to put that $ toward two nice, longer-lasting seats.

just my thoughts,
Amanda

I find it hard to believe that an baby that weighs 30 lbs could fit in the infant seat? We moved our DD from her Graco Snugride at 6 months old into a RF Marathon.

I would look at either the Radian80 or Marathon or Decathalon.
It will cost more than the safeseat.

Radian80 goes 5-33 lbs rearfacing and to 80lbs and 49 inches tall forward facing.

Marathon and Boulevard go 5-33 lbs rearfacing and to 65 lbs and 49 inches tall.

Then you child is in a 5 point harness longer. Graco safeseat you can only use 5 pt harness to 40lbs and 43 inches tall.

The Safeseat is fantastic. I got it when my dd was 8 months and used it till she was 19 months (literally *needed* it till 15 months because it was winter and she didn't walk till then...it was a total lifesaver). The 'average' 30 pound kid is 2.5, but there are some bouncing babies that really totally benefit from the extra weight limit (what do you do if you have a 24 pound 7 mo who's not sitting well? It sucks to have to take them out of a seat with only a 22 pound weight limit :( ). Even tallish kids fit in the SS1 till 18 months (huge kids till a year, which is still way longer than other seats), small kids fit till age 2 (and it CAN be installed as upright as you want it to, even if orange shows in the leveler window, so an older kid doesn't have to be lying down). Here's my dd in hers at various ages, and compared to other seats, it's really not much bigger than other infant seats http://picasaweb.google.com/joolstag/Leahincarseats

DD will be 8 months next week. She is 20 pounds (don't know her height, but she just had a growth spurt as she is now above the second slots and was not 3 days ago). Anyway, she fits great in the seat (her head is just above the ridge where the black portion begins--she is all legs). I only keep her in the seat when she is asleep now as the seat plus DD is just to heavy. But, this seat has been an absolute lifesaver!

Yes, it's for a newborn. I chose this one because of the higher height/weight limits, the EPS, and the fact that it's compatible with my stroller. I had a SnugRide for my DD and we replaced it at about 7 months with a convertible. I'm thinking this baby is going to be just as big if not bigger and hopefully we'll get at least a little more use out of it. :)

Oh, thanks! I think I agree with a previous poster about just skipping the infant seat. How old will the baby be? My daughter weighs about 24 lbs right now and we have her in a convertible. It's a lot easier--I definitely wouldn't be lugging her around in the infant seat now! :)

Wow, thank you! I am pretty set on the SafeSeat though (finally made up my mind). However, I was thinking of replacing my daughter's convertible--a Graco ComfortSport, which is not my favorite. Plus, I have to fit 3 in a row--my stepson is still in a booster, too. Do you happen to know how the width of these compare to the Graco? Thanks again! :)

I actually saw your pics in another post and that's what sold me! My daughter is TALL so I'm expecting this one to be, too. Awesome pics for reference. :)

Last January we got ours at Target for $89. It was an excellent price. The one we got was not the one with gracopedic foam. It does have EPS foam but not the extra stuff. I don't know if they run the same sale every year though.

Yeah, I think I'll just have to head to Target and use the 10% off coupon they sent me. I'm due sunday (supposed to be...haha, yeah right!!) so, uh, I need to hurry. LOL. :)

Um, you can't really compare the Safeseat to the SnugRide. The Safeseat is *meant* to hold larger babies and average toddlers -- its not at all like a SnugRide in terms of age/weight of the baby before its outgrown....

I've seen lots of babies and toddlers that look pretty close to 30lbs in Safeseats around here, looking happy as clams.

If you look at the links I sent you on the Marathon and Radian.. it gives the dimensions of those seats.
