Does anyone else follow this tradition?
We always had pancakes on Fat Tuesday- why is that? Even when I was teaching (at a private school) we would either have a pancake party or they would serve pancakes for lunch.
I still don't understand why!

It explains it here: http://www.chiff.com/a/shrove-tuesday.htm
Basically, to use up the milk, butter, & eggs that were forbidden to be eaten during Lent.

Thanks!
I knew about the whole meat thing, but I had never heard of giving up milk, butter, and eggs. Interesting!

It's not a tradition that I was familiar with at all until you posted - but now I know what we'll be having for dinner tonight - DH will be thrilled! Pancakes are always his choice for dinner.
