My OB says in her practice, she rarely sees deviation from weight gain in her patients' subsequent pregnancies. That would mean that I can expect to gain my grand ol' magic number of 40 lbs by the end of this preg. My eating habits are slightly different this time around, but I'm actually still right on track to gain 40. I'm fine with that -- I know the important thing is to just grow my baby, regardless of how much I grow. Just wondering what others have experienced. My OB herself gained 51 lbs with her first and 51 with her second.

I'm on track to gain the same. It was a little faster at the beginning, but evening out now.

39 with the first, 38 with the second, and 37 with number 3! With my last two pregnancies, I started out weighing 5-8 pounds less than when I started with my first.

I gained 40, give or take a pound or two, with both pregnancies. I started at about the same weight with both and even though my gain was slower at first with my second pregnancy it ended up being about the same by mid-second trimester. I even had the same huge gain (10 lbs between 2 Drs visits) at the exact same time in both pregnancies. That was weird!

ETA: DD1 was born 2 days after her due date, DD2 was born on her due date and weighed 5oz less than DD1

Interesting...

I gained 50 lbs with DS and was really hoping NOT to do that this time (I tried last time, but toward the end, the weight just piled on, although a lot WAS water...I ended up losing 42 lbs in 21 days, the best diet ever!)

So far I've gained 5 lbs in 30 weeks! I really hope I don't gain anywhere near 45 lbs in the last 8 weeks...that would be really really really bad. I was getting a bit worried, but the OB said that when you start out (as I did) *not exactly underweight,* as long as the baby is growing fine, they're not so concerned!

Sadly, no. I gained a nice 27lbs with ds1. I was on track to gain that with #2 till the end. In the last few weeks I just kept gaining more and more for a grand total of 40lbs. Had I lost just 27 it would have all been gone and then some but I'm only about 3lbs up from prepregnancy at 2 months pp now. I didn't eat differently and I was expecting about the same weight gain. I also exercised a lot more with #2. I have no idea what happened. Ds2 was a pound heavier. Ah well.

With my first pregnancy I gained 33 lbs. With my second I gained over 50 lbs. So I wouldn't say all pregnancies are similar.

However I'm pretty sure my kidney's were not functioning well during the second pregnancy, and this contributed to pretty severe edema. Once the water weight disappeared, I was more or less on track with how much weight I had left to lose.

I had a net gain of 16 with DD#1 and 26ish with DS#2. I get really sick at the begining and it takes me till about 20 weeks to regain what I loose. DS was 1lb 2oz bigger than DD. So for me not the same.

I gained 24 from my starting point with #1 but I also lost 8 lbs. due to morning sickness. So, I really gained 32 if you take that into account. With #2 I had no morning sickness and gained 32. So yeah, exactly the same. Both kids were 4-5 days overdue, though DS was 12 oz. smaller.

I gained 27 pounds with both boys. I started my second pregnancy about 2 pounds lighter than my first. DS2 was 1lb 3oz heavier, but it took me a little longer to lose the baby weight with DS2...I guess because DS1 was an eating machine.

My pregnancies were so similar my monthly gains were almost exactly the same, and my blood glucose levels were identical. No surprise that my sons look like twins born two years apart.

I gained 40 lbs with my first, and right now at 17 weeks I am on track to gain about 5-10 lbs less than that. I was more nauseous during my first trimester this time, so I think the difference can be explained by my eating habits. Who knows....I am ravenous all the time now, so I might just catch up to my previous weight gain during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters! :)

I gained 48 with DS and 33 with DD.

I'm 17 weeks now. With DS at this point, I was up 20 lbs. With DD, only 7. Now, I'm at +3 with this one.

Of course, I started higher with DD and higher still with this one. Not sure if that changes it or not. Still was less at the end with DD than DS.

I gained more in my 2nd pregnancy than I did in my 1st or 3rd. I think because I started off at a lower base weight when I got pregnant for the second time than when I got pregnant for the first and third times. I honestly have no idea how much *exactly* I gained in each pregnancy. It was under 30 in my first, about 50 in my second (but I was underweight when I started), and around 40 in my third.

I gained about 55 with DS and about 33 with DD. But for some reason with DS I was still smaller. I was in size small maternity clothes with DS but mediums with DD. I think my hips must have spread because I was the exact same starting weight with each of my children.

I gained 21lbs, 18lbs, and 22lbs with each. Interestingly, my middle child was a 9lb baby and she is a lot bigger than my other two as a newborn (about 7.5 lbs), even though I gained the least with her.

I weighed 175lbs. at delivery with DS1 --started at 135
I weighed 175lbs. at delivery with DS2 --started at 125
I weighed 185lbs. at delivery with twins---started out at 135

I didn't try to diet or eat any differently with any of my pregnancies. I just ate what I wanted. Strange, huh?

Interesting thread. But for me, no. 22 pounds with DD #1. Bad MS with number 2, so 7 pounds total, (and he weighed more than that!) This time around, taking Zofran for MS and I can really eat! So I think I've gained like 30 pounds so far? Ugh, I feel like a whale.

Strollerqueen, are you pregnant? Where have I been? If so, congratulations!!! btw, nice to see you here. I assume you lurk on the stroller boards but I haven't been there a lot lately.

I gained about 30lbs give or take 1-2 lbs with each pregnancy. I started out a few lbs lighter with the second and gained so fast that I thought I might gain over 50lbs. There were a few months that I would gain 5-6 lbs. It all evened out at the end. I took MUCH longer to lose it this time around, but I chalk that up to finishing off #1's chicken nuggets at dinnertime and eating way too much pb&j.

Unfortunately, yes...50# x 3 pgs. I gained at different rates but it was always the same amount in the end. :( Now...how to take it off? I guess I have to give up the desserts that I craved during the pgs. Good luck!

I am probably a bad example but with DS1 I gained 15 and DS2 I gained 11.

I had REALLY bad morning sickness with both until about 18 weeks and lost weight (about 10 lbs) each time until I finally started gaining back. DS2 also put me into the hospital at 22 weeks with a pretty bad kidney infection and I lost a bunch of weight then too.
