One of my GFs came to visit with her kids last month. They (6 yo dd and 4 yo ds) had razor scooters with them. Dora was fascinated with them and really wanted to try riding them. So they put the handle all the way down. Of course I ended up holding the bar for her because even though she was able to push with her foot, she's not able to balance herself on a single line of wheels. But my GF said that there are scooters with a double row of wheels, like training wheels for littler kids. Has anyone seen something like this?

I bought the double wheel one for my DS last year but he said it was for "babies." Lol. Anyway, he caught on to the "big kid" one really quickly. I'm hoping my 2yo will use the double wheel one this summer and not think it's "for babies!!"

My DS did the same thing as Heather's - wouldn't even touch the 3-wheeler but caught onto the two-wheeler very quickly. Interestingly, the balance he had to learn seemed to translate a bit into balancing on a bike.

Ryan got this for Christmas and caught on really quick. He hasn't mastered it, but he certainly "gets" it and likes to ride it. With his low tone I knew he wouldn't be able to handle one that didn't stay up on its own; the wide based on this is perfect for him.

ETA: Radio Flyer also has this one: http://www.radioflyer.com/rideon/rideon_510.html

Thanks Ladies! They all look great! Do you think there is a difference between having double wheels in the front vs. the back?

Turning ease and radius would be one big difference. Though I would also think that you'd want more stability where the child's weight was concentrated, so near the back.

My parents got my DD a Disney Princess one when she turned 3 a couple of weeks ago. She had a tendancy to scootch back at first when she was using it but now she can balance on it very well as she's already hauling down our driveway full force in the thing! Drives me bonkers with worry but she loves the thrill - thank goodness she's wearing a helmet!

Alek has a kiddie kick and used it all last summer before he turned 3. He really took to the scooter though and is a more physically adept kid to begin with. He loves the scooter but showed zero interest in pedaling a bike. I know he's looking forward to using the scooter again this year.

Thanks ladies! It seems like the scooters are all for ages 3 and up. Dora's 3rd birthday is this fall, so dh and I are hoping to take her to the store one of these days and see if she'll actually want to try one out.
