View Full Version : What's the difference between a Crockpot & a Pressure Cooker?

Somehow I missed the original messages about lead in Crockpots. I'm generally "up" on the warnings and recalls, but missed this one. Was I in a cave or were they trying to brush it under the carpet by not publicizing it very well? Anyway.....Yes I have a Rival CP, cooked dinner in it last night [sigh], and crockpot cooking is something I've been trying to do more often to avoid eating out or relying on prepared foods. Guess I have to go to Plan B now.....so I'm trying to get over my anger at the gov/companies for "dropping the ball" on yet another product containing lead and endangering my family's health and finding an alternative to my crockpot. Here are my questions: what are my other options to a crockpot? What is a pressure cooker? Can you use the same CP recipes in a pressure cooker? Anyone have a recommendation of something good & convenient that I can get to replace my "Contaminated Crock?"

TIA-

A pressure cooker cooks things faster than normal whereas a crockpot cooks things slower than normal - so a completely different process.

About pressure cookers:

About slow cookers:

Another option is using a Dutch oven in an oven for a couple hours.

I have this slow cooker:

I contacted Cuisinart's customer service and they responded that the pot has no lead content.

I want to start using a crock pot. I'll be watching for recommendations.
