A question out of curiosity sake more than anything! I'm getting ready to sign my DDs up for their summer lessons and was wondering what the going rates are in other parts of the world! ;)

How much do you pay for your DCs lessons? Are they private, semi-private or group? How long are the lessons last and how long is the session of classes?

DS, almost 4, goes to group lessons (8 kids and 2 instructors) once a week. The lessons are 30 minutes and we pay about $11 per lesson. This is at the Y. Before this we did a private swim club, two kids one instructor and were paying around $39 per lesson, also half hour each. I actually prefer the ones at the Y and I feel that they are actually teaching him as opposed to just playing in the pool with him.

Too much for private lessons, I'll tell you that! $25/ 30 minutes.

During the summer the borough offers lessons for much less and we do those.

Noah has been going to the YMCA for the past two years. There are usually about 5-8 kids in the class. Each session the price is different because it depends on how many weeks are in the class. I did the math and it works out to $10.50 a lesson. His current Srping class is 9 weeks and cost $94.50. The classes are 30 minutes each.

DS starts up again tomorrow. His class is 8 kids and 2 instructors and is $45 for 8 weeks, so about $5.50 a class. We pay an extra $3 for not living in the city. His is through a neighboring city's high school.

$50 for 8 classes, plus $13 for a parking pass (covers the 8 lessons). 4 kids per instructor.

It's really varied for us. Through the YMCA, I think it was $85 for eight lessons (group class, 6-18 months). Through the Dept of Parks and Rec in the city I used to live in, it was about $60 for eight weeks (huge class, 18-36 months). Now I'm paying $120 for eight 30-minute classes here in Thailand (unparented, one instructor to less than five students). But the money has been worth it - DD's instructor is amazing and she's much ahead of where she'd be otherwise!

DD is in a semi-private class, which means 3 kids total. her class is one time per week; a 30-minute lesson followed by 30 minutes in the practice pool. 5 week session = $90.

they offer a two class per week option, but i don't know the cost.

we are in So Cal btw.

We're paying about $28/half-hour lesson, but that's because there's only 3 students per instructor. We tried the group lessons at the Y, but my daughter hates putting her face in the water and so we're trying this out to see if it's better. Our town pool offers private lessons for about $10/hr (I think).

8 classes a month for $50 at the Y - that's the member rate. I think it's $90 for non-Y members. Private classes are $25 for 30 mins.

We pay $135 for 9 lessons (which works out to $15 per class) in San Diego. The ratio is 1:3. It is a year round swim school, and it is great during fall/winter because we were the only ones in the class so DD was getting private lessons for the price of a group of 3 basically.

Gator is 4.5 yo and he goes to group lessons once per week for 8 weeks. I pay $55 for the 8 lessons. The group ratio fluctuates but on average there about 6 kids with 2 instructors each class (it seems like a couple of kids are missing every week).

My two just started a semi-private program this past week, two times a week for 30 minutes a session and it works out to about $20 each per class.

$65 ($55 for members) for 6 weeks
1/2 hour lessons; 5 kids with one instructor
However there was only one week that all the kids showed up.

Most importantly the instructor was awesome. We're signing up again next month.

Around $50 for 8 weeks of lessons for members, twice or so that for non-members. Classes I think have 6 people and there are normally 2 instructors. J idolized his last male instructor which was great! In addition, our Y had free sitting and the babysitting room my kids see has a treat (shhhhhhhhhh)... so one goes to the babysitting room, one goes to lessons and I go to the cross trainer. I can not observe the class, no matter where I hid J finds me and spends the class talking to me from the pool. Out of sight our of mind with him.

Our Y had great classes for kids. We have done tee-ball, swim and soccer. All around $50 for members. Need to start 'Intro to Sports with Parent' the next session with #2.

DS is almost 4 and takes swim lessons year round at the community rec center. For kids under 5 the classes are parent/child and cost $32 per session. Each session lasts 4 weeks with a 30 minute class twice a week. There are a max of 12 kids in each session with one instructor.

After age 5 the classes are 4-6 kids with one instructor. These are 45 minute classes twice a week for 4 weeks. The cost is $38 for the 4 week session.

Those are the resident rate. Non-residents pay a little more.

$42 for a 7 week session, 1 day a week, 30 minutes each lesson. 1 instructor, up to 6 kids per class. My kids are the only kids at their level and session, so it's like getting a semi-private lesson at the group rate. This is through our city at the rec center.

We pay about $16 per lesson for 30 minutes with 4 kids and 1 instructor. It's once a week for 10 weeks. The length of the session , ie, weeks, may differ from month to month.

We pay $40 through the Y for 8 1/2 hour lessons (we are members, it is more for non-members.) Right now she has 3 kids in her class, but it seems like there are usually only 2 at a time.

In the summer though, the classes will be more like 4-6 kids.

We are starting tomorrow in fact and for private lessons we are paying $38 for three 30 minute sessions. The group lessons are 4 kids per instructor and are $45 for six 30 minute sessions. This is through the local community/rec center.

$20 (members rate) for 8 30 minute lessons at our YMCA, 1:5 ratio, though there are usually only 4 kids in the class.
