Hi
This is my 32nd week and i have read in some books that one should start looking for a pediatrician around 6th month.... i am just wondering what is the right time to start looking for one?
And what is the best way to find a good one? We have recently moved to San Jose, CA and dont know alot of people (so personal recommendations isnt an option!), so are there any helpful forums/links to find one?
Any recommendations? Thanks

if you like your ob- ask them for some names. otherwise-i understand your situation about being new to the area- you may just have to pick from a list...
also, try asking the nurses in your ob's office...they should have a pretty good idea of who to see/not to see
good luck!!!!

You could also go to the American Academy of Pediatrics website. There is a section in the "parents corner" for pediatrician referrels in your particular area. Maybe that will help, or at least give you a place to start. Good luck.

We we were pretty new to our area, too, but we talked to friends and anyone else we could find - mostly people we worked with and neighbors - who had kids. We felt we really needed to reach out because we needed a "parent's eye view".

I asked friends, but I also did a parenting class at the hospital I was delivering at and the nurse who taught the class unofficially gave out names of some of the pediatricians she is familiar with and have good reputations. I also asked my OB for recommendations. They did not recommend, but they had a list of area pedis. I would then try to quietly ask the nurses what they know, my OB was too professional to make any kind of comment.
You could also see if there are mom's clubs or a local online discussion board for moms in your area to see what the talk is in those spots.
Good luck!

I have gotten the best recommendations from my midwives (CNMs). They tend to know the sorts of things their moms are looking for wrt things like supporting breastfeeding, having their parents want to be really involved, vaccines, sleeping... When I have just gone with the recommendations of other parents at the playground or playgroup we have not been happy.
