We just bought a plain old globe at Target but most bookstores carry them too. I did not want one of the talking ones.

When my DS was 4, now 8, we purchased the Leapfrog talking globe (not the toddler one, but the more advaced one). It has served as an amazing learning tool and is still played with today. I remember when DS was in Pre-K, he was able to ID many obscure countries and even taught his teacher about Qatar (no qu). It was definitely worth the investment IMO.

It was on clearance so about $13. Regularly, something like $20.

I wouldn't go too expensive. We had one when we were kids, and after maybe 8 years of... enthusiastic use, my brother and sister and I broke the stand. The globe part had another week or so of life as a big ball with the world on it, but cardboard can only take so much. :)

I am on a hunt for a light up one. My nephew has one he goes to sleep with at night. SIL bought at CVS 2 yrs ago. The boys had a blast looking at it.

If you're looking for a basic globe, don't forget to check TJ Maxx/Ross/Marshalls. I've found some good deals there - expensive globes for ~$10-$15.
