Looking for a book about kids and baths

I have a vague memory of a book from childhood about a kid who won't take a bath and he gets all green and gross. His family claims not to recognize him b/c he is so dirty. Am I totally making this up? Does this sound like a book anyone knows? My mom couldn't think of what it was. I know it is a kid and not "Harry the Dirty Dog."
