I imagine the only thing left on the shelf will be the Gerber bottles, no? I wonder if they will begin to carry glass bottles - anyone know where to get glass bottles?

I got my glass Dr. Brown's at BRU several months ago. The glass Evenflo were leaking and not helping the reflux, but they have those too.

TRU/BRU carries the glass evenflo bottles. Walmart is carring the ParentsChoice brand BPA free bottles.

In Canada, TRU/BRU carries glass Evenflo in both sizes, Medela, Dr. Brown's glass, and Gerber GentleFlow. They sometimes carry Born Free online. All are BPA free.

Walmart Canada pulled BPA bottles/sippies and other kids food stuff (bowls, spoons, etc) this past Sunday. The bottle/sippy section was nearly empty.

OK, I did a ton of research on this last year when this all came out. At the time I concluded I was safe continuing with Playtex Nursers with the disposable Drop-ins. Is this still considered safe? I know some of the Playtex Nurser bottle "frames" themselves may have BPA, but they do not come into contact with the milk. I figure with the Drop-ins, at least I am only using them once, so it's not like they are being washed and reused and breaking down over time.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I was told that the Playtex Drop-Ins Original Nurser Systems are BPA free... here's a news link for it. the drop ins are supposedly safe.

Thanks for that, it was very helpful! Also, it brought me to a link to get a free Nurser System!

This is great news. I'm tired of companies, mostly referring to the bottle makers, making me feel like an alarmist since I'm concerned about BPA. Their attitude has been that BPA is safe, but we will make glass bottles to appease you freaks that are concerned. I hope this pressures manufacturers to stop making unsafe products.

Considering bpa in bottles is making it more into mainstream news, I think it wouldn't make much business sense to keep them.

I'm surprised and impressed. I hope there will be good alternatives conveniently available for me at the superstores this fall.

Yep. Me too. A couple of folks who blew me off on this issue have actually called to apologize! Bless them.

I know what you mean. On another board I'm on I am the mom that is always getting pounced on for being overly paranoid but now people are actually getting it. I don't think they feel I am paranoid anymore! Just 2 weeks ago we debated bottles and 2 totally brushed me off and said they would take their chances and now they have made a complete switch. Ah, maybe that means they'll listen to me about other stuff. I can just say, "remember the bottles??". :)

TRU/BRU is also doing this:

REDUCTION OF PHTHALATES AND POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC) USE:
All manufacturers have been notified that by the end of 2008 juvenile products sold in any Toys“R”Us or Babies“R”Us store in the United States must be produced without the addition of phthalates that have raised concerns about infant safety.

Additionally, as we move closer to our goal of offering PVC-free products, we have already begun replacing PVC and phthalates in juvenile products manufactured exclusively for Toys“R”Us, Inc.

I was in BRU two days ago and they had the BornFree bottles and the glass Dr. Brown's bottles.

Here's the list of BPA-free bottles that are out there. There's a lot more choices now. BornFree and Think Baby also make sippy cups.

Do you know if the Medela bottles are safe? I assumed so, but I guess I shouldn't have.

Do you know if the Avent Tempo drop in system is also considered safe? That is what we are using for DD b/c she only liked the Avent nipples.

Yes, over the last 6 months or so, everything I have read about Medela says ALL of their stuff is BPA-free. That was my deciding factor between the Medela PIS and the Ameda Purely Yours.

Yes, they're the cloudy plastic. The Ameda ones are not, but I hear the medela bottles fit the Ameda pump.

Yes I believe they are safe like the Playtex Drop-ins. I think the holder is made from polycarbonate but that doesn't have contact with the liquid. I believe their VIA system is also safe and their Magic Sippy cups

I would imagine that Avent will be switching to another plastic soon for their regular bottles as they are going to lose alot of business if TRU/BRU and Wal-mart won't sell them

The bottles that come with the Ameda Purely Yours pump are not safe as they are polycarbonate, BUT you can buy Lansinoh breast milk storage bottles instead. Lansinoh makes a pump that is identical to the Purely Yours (it just doesn't come with a bag and all the extras that the PY has). The Lansinoh bottles are made of polypropylene plastic instead of the hard polycarbonate.

Amazon has them:
http://www.amazon.com/Lansinoh-Breast-Storage-Bottles-pk%252e/dp/B000M8GBDK

Also, Dr. Brown's is coming out with a polypropylene bottle next month.

Does anyone know if it is safe to still use the avent nipples on the Born Free Bottles?

Also, I saw an earlier posting about alternatives for Amenda breast Pump, you can also use the Medela bottles.
