Not sure if this is the place to ask, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good childbirth and infant care instructional DVDs? My husband and I have been having a difficult time finding any classes in our area, and I'm 7 months along. There's a bigger city we could go to if we had to, but the classes out there are $150 and up. I really want to have some kind of idea what I'm getting myself into, and my husband has zero experience with babies!

Are you signed up for a birth class at your place of birth or an independent place (Bradley, Hypnobabies, Lamaze...)? Most devote a full night to baby care basics. It would be possible to see if an independent instructor
or doula (birth or postpartum) would be willing to meet with you one on one for a class. I know many that would. :) http://www.dona.org/

I'll have to think on the DVDs. Perhaps you could scope out some good picks on amazon and get them for free at the library? Maybe you could try the 3 popular Amazon titles? None seem to be quite good enough on their own based on the reviews but together they could be good. :)

The book "Heading Home with Your Newborn" is really handy. It's what I used as a refresher before #2. "The Baby Book" by Dr. Sears rocks. If nothing else, read both of these pre-baby and they should help.

Oh, yeah. I just gave "HHWYN" a couple months ago to a friend who was having a baby and, in the week before and the 1.75 months after birth, she has literally read it to tatters. So while I can't recommend the binding, I will say the book is SUPER useful, a very easy read, and much easier to refer to than a DVD.

And, of course, "TBB" is the best all-around, hands-on book I know.

As for DVDs, I tried to watch a few and got a little frustrated by them. I want a lot of information that they just couldn't supply, and some of the camera angles made it hard for me to understand exactly what was going on. But maybe that was just me....
