Q about RF carseat installation (infant and convertible)

I am trying to advise a friend about the installation of 2 carseats in their vehicle.

They have a 2 year old currently in a Marathon RF'g, and will have an infant in a PP PrimoViaggio SIP. If they can be installed side by side, is it safest to have the convertible in the middle and the infant seat outboard, or vice versa?

They have a late-model SUV with side curtain airbags.

I think if it were me I'd rather put the older child outboard in the top tethered RF Marathon.

Later when the older kid must be FF, I'd put her in the middle, baby outboard.
