The last movie I rented ( There Will Be Blood) made me want to put a gun to my head. Anything out there worth watching? Open to good series too. Loves are Deadwood, Rome, Sopranos, The Shield, The Tudors, Nip Tuck, Grey's...

If you haven't already seen them, the TV series The Unit and Jericho were very addictive for us!

ooooooh, i like all your examples! i should say i have been totally addicted to your examples, lol.

i just checked my netflix rental activity list and saw these, if you haven't seen them yet:

Stardust (with michelle pfeiffer this reminded us a little of The Princess Bride)
Enchanted
Evelyn (based on a true story, with Perce Brosnan)
27 Dresses

Gone Baby Gone and the Kite Runner were both excellent, but serious/depresesing

i've been really enjoying Beverly Hills 90210 and Touched by an Angel on TV, and i know several seasons are on DVD

i'll edit if i think of more. i can't wait to see other suggestions!

How about the series Heroes? It's not the kind of thing I would normally watch, but I was trapped in a hotel room when the first episode was on, and I've been hooked ever since.

How could I have forgotten Dexter, love this. Cal is not out yet, we have seen Brotherhood and Shield and Weeds and I have tried the Wire twice based on thumbs up here and for some reason can not hear/ understand all the voices. I live for Denis Leary!!!!!

Akeelah and the Bee was the most heartwarming movie without a touch of saccarine

Slings and Arrows is a very funny canadian series about backstage goings on at a Shakepeare festival -- somewhat raunchy and the first episode ends on a weird note, but overall a really fun series.

ETA:
I loved Stranger Than Fiction and liked the Jane Austen Book Club better than I liked the book of the same name. And if you like British comedy, Kinky Boots is charming (and rather tame in spite of the title).

For a guilty pleasure, I'm watching Alias -- I dropped it after the first 6 episodes because I had no time for TV and just couldn't handle the "DaVinci Code" story arc, but I like it now.

Here are some of our recent high-rated movies...I love Netflix!

The Squid and the Whale
No Country for Old Men
Black Snake Moan
Croupier
Capturing the Friedmans
Murderball

DO NOT RENT:
The Mist - it's the worst movie I have ever seen!!!

The last movie I rented ( There Will Be Blood) made me want to put a gun to my head.

LOL. DH's friend loaned this movie to us last weekend. Blech!! ;)

ETA:
we've recently become big fans of the Wire. IMO the first season was the best, but it was good. Sort of like Sopranos meets NYPD Blue in some ways.

We also like Weeds and are waiting for the 3rd season to come out.

If you like documentaries, we've liked Maxxed Out, and Who Killed the Electric Car. I saw someone recommended Murderball and I really enjoyed that, but it could be the PT in me too ;)

Akeelah in the Bee was great (agreeing w/ PP).

I've heard good things from a friend about Big Love if you like TV series. I haven't watched any episodes yet. I like House too, but mostly just watch it on TV and haven't rented the seasons yet.

We're watching The Wire. I wasn't sure about it at first but we're really enjoying it.

We tried some other series but couldn't get into John From Cincinnati (terrible, terrible), The Tudors or Weeds.

I know! We barely made it through one episode before it was jammed back into the Netflix envelope and returned.

I still miss Deadwood. :(

John from Cinc. was such a terrible show! I was so happy when dh finally stopped watching it. I didn't even make it through the first 10 minutes of the 1st episode. Horrible. I know dh hung in there just to see what would happen but then missed a week and got too lost. Thank goodness. Hated it.

How about the British series "Coupling"? It's still on BBC America too. We really enjoyed it.

The freaks and geeks series is great! Just finished the last episode.

Next on my queue is vitus, juno, in the shadow of the moon, and walk on water. Of course, weeds will preempt all of these when the new season comes out.

Add "Knights of Prosperity" to your list and hope that someday it actually comes out on DVD. It was on ABC for a season (if that) and we loved it here.

Did anyone mention Battlestar Galactica for a series? Really, it's not just scifi silliness. I swear. I'm not a geek. (just married to one! :))

Also, someone mentioned Croupier - really good movie I had never heard of. Now I tell everyone to rent it.

I've been watching Monk lately (ok, obsessively, that's probably why I like it, he's an OCD detective and the mysteries are even easy enough for me to kind of follow...I'm not a big fan of mysteries, but I like this).

Man on Fire
Frequency
Antwone Fisher
40 Year Old Virgin ( Pretty crass, but I'll admit it...thought it was hysterical)

Another dh pick-Celebrity Mole. It was an ABC reality show and was really fun:
http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Celebrity_Mole_Hawaii/60035703?trkid=222336&lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=1582390865_1_0

A new, non celebrity, version starts this June on ABC and that's whar reminded me. He was much better at unraveling things than me.

This weekend we watched Lars and the Real Girl with Ryan Gosling. An odd premise, but a really sweet, lovely movie. The subject might turn some people off - a lonely eccentric begins a relationship with a doll...but its actually not all that weird, just a little far-fetched - His family reluctantly accepts the relationship and soon the whole small town is on board (people are all-too open- hearted and accepting.. not very realistic)... but like I said, a sweet story.

Definitely check this one out if you're in an off-beat-movie kinda mood.
