View Full Version : Shoving car seats/boosters over--is it safe?

Today, I helped out a friend and took her 7 year-old son to school. So, I had to put 3 across in the backseat for the first time. Joshua (my very small 4 year-old) still fits in a Roundabout, Jack (my 7 year-old) is in a Compass B510. The mother of the other child brought his seat--a Combi booster (not high-backed).

I managed to squeeze the seats in there (though it was tough to buckle the two in boosters). However, I had to unlatch Joshua's Roudabout and do a seatbelt install with it shoved over toward the door. It wasn't all the way over, as the seat slopes, but it was definitely further over than usual. I had to do the same with Jack's Compass in order to have room for our friend's booster in the middle.

Is this unsafe to do? Granted, we were literally driving under a mile through neighborhood streets. (We would have walked if I hadn't had to get Joshua to preschool right after.) There may be times in the future when I have to do this again.

I know there is a narrower booster I can buy. I think someone here recommended a Fisher Price? Can you tell me the exact name again and if if that still is the narrowest one out there?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's ok to shove...as long as the installed seat doesn't somehow get loose (which it shouldn't...)
Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe is the one, and also the Britax Parkway is a great choice (no armrests...I think my ds had an easier time buckling his parkway then dd did her FP when they were next to each other...)

Thanks for responding, Julie. I'm glad shoving was okay. : ) Those seats were so tightly jammed together that they weren't going anywhere, which is good. And no belts came loose.

I think you had recommended another FP booster at one point--it was one with a removable back--very inexpensive. It seemed perfect for the occasional carpool rider (older DS's friends are 6-7 and up--some ride in butt boosters, so it would be good to have that option for a child who is used to that).

I could swear it was like $29 last week at babylove.com, but I think it must be sold out???? Seems to be 39 at a few places, maybe one at least has free shipping...

I think this is the same one--just in another color, no?

If so, I'm ordering it tonight. It'd be good to have something small that would work!

The Tan Tech color scheme is $10 cheaper for a final price of $29:

I just received 15 of these in the mail for my work. I'll keep buying them till they are sold out. I must have taken a huge percentage of their remaining inventory over the last year or so by ordering them no fewer than 10 at a time. :ROTFLMAO:
