John's b-day is next month. He likes dinosaurs at the moment. I'd like to get him something with good play value. Any recs for dino toys or other 2 y.o. boy toy hits?

We are only having a small celebration so I'd like to give him one or two things that he'll enjoy a lot.

Karen, my boys (ages 2 and 3 years, 8 months) like the Schleich dinosaurs you can get at Target. They have lots of different dinosaurs. They're not gorgeous or anything, but my boys like them much better than the Holtzinger wooden ones. (Sad for me!) They actually do play with them every day. You can buy them in a set or individually. Just look for the Schleich section at Target-- it sorta looks like a bunch of little bins.

Thanks for replying! I went to Target today and bought 3 Schleich dinos before reading your post so I'm glad they like them. We have a few other Schleich animals that John likes so hopefully he will like the dinos.

Otherwise, Target's toys pretty much sucked. I got John an alligator pillow for his bed (his big boy bed has ABC's theme and an alligator for A) and two small trucks for the sandbox.

I'm going to check the more natural toys stores online for good stuff. Maybe some dino books. I searched for old birthday threads but didn't come up with many ideas -- oh, except a Remo drum -- that might be really good. I may have to search out the old Christmas/Holiday hits misses threads.

Thanks again for the recommendation!!

Oh, good, glad you got the Schleichs.

Come to think of it, there's another dinosaur thing they LOVE. I'm not a huge Melissa & Doug fan, but there are some dinosaur magnets that my boys seriously play with every day and they're nice looking/quality. It's just a box of wooden dinosaur magnets, but they're really cute. My kids love arranging them all over the refrigerator in different dinosaur scenarios. They get a serious kick out of making up various dinosaur scenes on the refrigerator. LOL. I found ours at Marshalls.

They look like this. I only paid $5 for our box.

Have you seen these? They are super cute. My girls do NOT like them, but if I had boys, I would totally get them! :)

My DS has a dino set for TRU. It's really nice and comes in a storage box and with a plastic play mat. The play mat is pretty useless IMO but the dinos and volcano have held up well over the past two years. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2330688

Another idea: My DS picked this CD out at the library and loves it. He keeps asking for the Dinosaur music.

Corinne LOVES her Schleich dinos!

It's not a toy, but lately I've had several orders for my dino tees that I embroider. Here are a few examples:
