I have Doodles and Doodle All Year by Taro Gomi - they are for myself right now and for DD (turning 3 soon) when she's a little bit older. Are these books too complicated for an almost 4-year-old girl? I'm trying to get a birthday present for a friend's DD.

I've never seen her dressed up in princess costumes or playing with Dora or Disney or My Little Pony stuff... I got her board games before so I'm trying to find something different this time.

How about pop beads? My 3.5 year-old has this awesome, funky set from Parents, available at Target. She has spent so many hours playing with them - they have been one of the best gifts ever! Older girls and boys and even adults seem to find it hard to keep their hands off of them. DD makes not only jewelry but animals and other things with them.

We just gave that exact set to a friend for her 4th birthday! So glad that someone else likes them. I thought they looked cool!
