I have actually heard 2 Dixie Chicks songs on the radio in the last week. I am thrilled. Did the radio stations decide they were ok to play again?? Anybody heard anything about this?

Hmm.. It must depend upon where you are. I heard about the situation a few months ago (I know, I'm really behind in pop culture news!), but I still hear them on the radio around here. But we're a state of lefties. :)

Though mostly it's the "not ready to make nice," that I've heard. I love that song.

It was a long time ago - unless there is something new I haven't heard about. Here is the original story summarized. After this, most country stations refused to play their music. It really wrecked their careers.

Okay, I already knew about this. I just assumed the OP was talking
about something else that had happened.

Thanks for the links though!

We don't get to hear ANY Dixie Chicks around here. 'Course, I *am* living in Dubya country...

That's just it--I live in Utah--the REDDEST state in the USA. And it was 2 off of their old albums--Landslide and maybe Long Time Gone.

I woudn't say the original dust up ruined them--it just put them on a different path. They got several Grammys for the newest CD. I did not get a chance to see the move "Shut Up and Sing". I should rent it.

Regardless of all the politics--I just love their music. Heck, I love Toby Keith's music too and you might say that he is on the opposite end of the political spectrum!

"Heck, I love Toby Keith's music too and you might say that he is on the opposite end of the political spectrum!"

I was surprised to hear that Toby Keith is actually a democrat. He is just pro military. I saw him during an interview. I thought from their disagreements he would have been a republican.

Edited for clarification

I think the only Dixie Chicks influence I hear anymore is that they play the original, Fleetwood Mac version of Landslide pretty regularly now.

Here in Seattle, the country stations don't play them when I am listening at least.

I don't think it wrecked their careers- it changed the path they were on, cost them some money but heck, they won multiple grammy awards last year and their record sold well. Frankly, after receiving death threats and harassment from many of their former fans, I can't imagine they would feel a large affinity with those that disavowed them.
