Hi,
My youngest son is a very active child. I wondered what types of toys a 8 month old would like who is always on the go. The toys I have now are not cutting it. Any suggestions would be great. He is standing up by himself and starting to cruise.
Thanks,
Tiffany

A walker wagon is good. I like the sturdy ones that don't go overly fast when pushed. DD started using hers around your son's age IIRC (she walked around 10 months). The Haba one gets great reviews, as does the Radio Flyer Walker Wagon. IMO, both are expensive, but sturdy, and can be repurposed as a doll stroller, shopping cart, toy storage (in the case of the RF), etc.

A tunnel/tent set (like Ikea carries, or Ryan's Room, etc.) has good play value. DS got his when he was over a year old, but DD played with ours from 9 months or so (it was one of the very first things she and DS could play together). Costco sells the Ryan's Room ones for a great price in the fall leading up to the holidays most years...I'm not sure how long you want to wait.

For just general gross motor fun, just pull your couch cushions off and build tunnels, encourage him to climb up and over cushions, etc. with supervision.

Balls (O ball, Gertie ball are both nice for small hands)

Fill up a dishpan with a few inches of water (obviously when you can be there supervising) out on the porch and give him some cups and spoons, etc.

My DS is 10 months and really active. I find he really likes things that are not toys and things he can chew on. For the chewing things I love the Haba teethers. I also really like the simple sorting boxes and the ring toys. Oh and also a simple truck or car (big) he can push around. Oh and the leapfrog learning table (I HATE toys that make noise but I let this one slide).
