DS just turned 4 and has begun group tennis "lessons" through our town. He LOVES the sport!!!!! He really enjoys hitting the ball on this contraption that resembles a swing trainer used for softball. There is a sturdy base, a pole and then a tennis ball attached to a string that allows the player to hit the ball and not chase it into the woods!

Any idea where I might find such a thing???

Thanks!

I don't know what the machine is called but can you ask his instructor? That'd probably help in your search.

Hopefully a tennis player will post with the name for you.:)

I did a search and found something called a Hit-A-Way. Here's a link: http://www.mansionselect.com/tenni****away-hitawaytennis-hitawaypole.html

It looks like the web site has a few more tennis training aids, so if the Hit-a-way isn't right, you might just browse the web site.

The Hit-A-Way looks interesting. The one at the courts is by Wilson and has the sand-filled bottom that our basketball hoop has. Coach said that there are ones at Kids-r-Us that convert among tennis, baseball and softball for practice. That would be great, but I would also be happy with a quick-to-arrive tennis swing "thing".

Has anyone ever seen them IRL?

Thanks!

We got a game called Swingball at Target this spring. They still have them at ours. Here's a link to it at Toys R Us:

Our whole family loves it and dh and I were thinking it is a good intro to the hand-eye coordination you need for tennis. Is this what you had in mind?

This is what my husband, a tennis player, came up with:
