The midwife called her birth "tumultuous"... I woke up at 12:50 AM with the first contraction, we waffled a bit about whether it was the real thing or not, but called around 2 and were told to think about heading in, as DH was timing them at 2-3 minutes apart and lasting a minute...I was still convinced we'd go in and be told it was a false alarm. Luckily, the midwife agreed with DH, or this baby might have been born in the car!
We (well, DH) threw some things in a bag (next time I'll really have to pack things *before* I'm in labor) and got to the hospital at 3 (and if I ever have to ride in the car with contractions that strong again it will be too soon!) and baby arrived at 4:27. It was intense! So I got my vbac, a few stitches (ouch!) and a very healthy baby, and got to leave the hospital 36 hours after she was born to come home to a preschooler who alternates between being hyper-excited and tearful. (And really, who can blame her?)
So we're still trying to figure out sleeping arrangements - the co-sleeper thing isn't working out nearly as well as actual co-sleeping did last time, and quite frankly I'd just like more than 1 consecutive hour of sleep sometime in the next 24 hours! - and how exactly to temper all the boundless energy of a 3.5+ year old around a teeny tiny newborn, although it's very sweet that Carolyn wants to hold and hug and kiss Anna all the time and we don't want to discourage that! Carolyn was very, very upset last night when Anna was crying, because to her crying = sad and she wanted to "fix it", so we had to have a little talk about how babies cry because that's the only way they can tell us they need something.
But we're all thrilled to pieces that we have a new family member and we figure we'll get everything else sorted out eventually! (Although, a little bit of sleep would be nice...)
Oh, and sorry if this makes no sense...I don't have the time or energy to try and edit it!
Sarah :)
