DH had to go into the hospital yesterday at noon with what he thought was a heart attack (which I didn't believe because he's in good shape and goes to the Dr all the time and doesn't have but a small risk for one, but he's almost 60 and has a family history of it, so it's not out of the question....)... well, they hooked him up just like it was a heart attack, but they didn't seem to think that was the problem, either... so they started to check him for every infectious disease they could think of... but nothing.

Well, unfortunately it was a heartburn issue, esophogeal/GI Bleed, and the blood thinners for the possible heart attack made it WAY worse :(. His bp dropped to nothing this morning and he needed transfusions. I don't know whether to feel guilty or relieved that I wasn't with him to see that... :(. Anyway, he's on the mend, they will probably cauterize the bleed (he said, but he's also on some pain drugs and details aren't his forte to begin with, so maybe?) and hopefully he can come home tomorrow. Fortunately I have a slew of SAHM neighbors and some teenage girls that are more than willing to help out, so things are pretty much normal here for the kids, except of course they miss their dad!

Anyway, phew! Just a word of wisdom, he wasn't really having 'heartburn' symptoms...it was some coughing at night, but not any major burning (he used to have that bad, so it was different so it didn't seem the same disease)... he thought it was bad allergies or a lung issue... but he hurt below his breastbone (and my mom heard that, she's a nurse, and said, has he had a barium xray? sounds like a GI problem...oh, she's smart!)

Hugs to you and DH.

I have the same cough issue w/my acid reflux. I knew it was bad several weeks ago when the cough came back. The OB put me on Nexium b/c the 3 Pepcid AC a day weren't doing anything. Get this my ins won't cover it until my doctor writes a letter as to why I need it. :32: If only I could cough up a lung in their face.

I feel for your DH that kind of thing is so painful and hard to explain. I'm glad to hear all will be OK and he'll be home soon. One cheer for your mom too!

Jools, so glad you DH is going to be ok and I'm sorry for your scare. I am glad you got everything checked out...my DH DID have a heart attack not long before DS was born and the symptoms were not classic. We are very blessed that he is still here enjoying our children.

I'll be thinking of you guys as your DH recovers and things settle down for you guys.

Thanks everyone. I think yesterday was the worst day, he sounded a lot better last night on the phone. He thinks they said his esophagus is pretty shreaded, though (from his sore throat to the pain he felt below his breastbone), so I hope it's not a major matter to heal it up :( (still, yeah, WAY better than a heart attack, all things considered). I have even more babysitters coming over to help, so besides the frantic cleaning I'm doing for them, I'm pretty relieved :love-retry:
