I'm working from home more regularly, and am having to tote my laptop home a couple of times per week. My company issues a bag with my computer, but it's a big black monstrosity. Since I'm only bringing home the laptop, a file folder or two, and the power cord, I would really like something smaller, and maybe even a backpack style. I am going for simplicity and light weight, and hopefully a little bit cute. I am already also lugging my mom purse and lunchbag, and after my maternity leave I'll also be lugging the breast pump, so I want something with just enough room for the necessities. Plus I am 5'2" and don't have room on my frame for a big, giant bag. I will not be traveling with this laptop in the foreseeable future, and if I do I'll just take the company bag.

Any suggestions?

TIA

I use my Vera Bradley Curvy Tote... I use it to transport my laptop and can still fit a notepad and text book in as well, and the front pocket for pens, etc. I like to think it's adorable ;) My laptop is a perfect fit, but may not work for the larger models.

How about a wheeled bag? I've been using one from Kensington for a couple of years. Although it isn't really small, it's nice not to have to carry it all the time.

Have you checked out ebags.com? Get there through mousesavers.com and get a 15% discount. They even have a laptop bag finder so you can search for one that will definitely fit yours. Better yet, check the section of "Laptop Bags for Women" to see some fun ones! I don't suppose this one would be professional enough, but it sure would be fun to carry: http://www.ebags.com/mobile_edge/maddie_powers_messenger_laptop_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=104215

I have a Tom Binh bag that I love (the Vertical Brain Cell). No frills, streamlined, and great protection for my laptop.

Here's what I've been doing for over a year and I wish I had started doing it earlier when I was carrying my pump back and forth too. My back ached carrying all those bags.

I put the laptop in a neoprene type cover ($20 at Target) and put it, my folders, and a lunch bag inside a wheeled carryon suitcase ($20ish Target). I carry my purse on my shoulder and if I have the little cooler instead of a lunch bag, I just hook its handle around the suitcase handle so it sits on top of the suitcase like a makeup kit or somesuch. My suitcase is teal and I have a Sharks decal to attach to the front (just haven't gotten to it yet).

I think it looks cute, and if not, heck, it's saving my back and gets me to the car in one trip.

It's not a backpack, but I've been eyeing one of these.

Wheels are great, except I have to go up all kinds of stairs to get into my building. There are ramps somewhere, but totally not worth the hassle. And then up a flight of stairs to my office. There's a scary creepy old elevator, but again, not worth the hassle.

I use a Lexie Barnes Echo bag. I think they've been discontinued, but you can still find some around. I think someone just posted one on Babybags in the last few days. They come in 3 sizes, I have the Echo 17. It's big enough for my 15.4" screen laptop, the cords and some file folders. It's very compact and lightweight, but still padded to protect the computer. I haven't regretted the purchase for a minute!

If you want a really cool bag (for most anything) - and can stand their website - Crumpler has some really nice stuff. www.crumplerbags.com (http://www.crumplerbags.com) - be warned though - they recently changed the website around attempting go for a "hip" look - but it ended up being a trainwreck.

edit - just noticed they now have a "lite" non-flash version of their site now - which is much less annoying than the other version.

When I got my laptop a couple years ago, I asked a similar question and this brand was recommended by someone I really respect from this board. http://www.acmemade.com There isn't a backpack style, and they are kind of pricey (which is why I haven't taken the plunge to get one yet), but I thought I would throw this at you for consideration. :)

Wow, that site is luggage porn! So gorgeous. Makes me want to buy luggage and cases for every little gadget I own.

I love the look of the Crumpler bags, but the ones that fit my laptop are just too big. :(

Thanks for all your great suggestions! I did go to ebags and use the laptop finder and ordered the Keen Goose Hollow in purple this morning. Free return shipping, so if I hate it, it can go back. Plus, I found some good discounts + free shipping on retailmenot.com.

I have Milano by Mobile Edge and am very happy about it. It looks professional and sleek without being bulky. Right now it is 20% off on eBags which brings it to $79.99.
