I have never owned a pair of flip flops. I don't know where
to begin. How comfortable are they? It looks like the piece
between the toes would hurt.

Any suggestions?

I *love* flip flops, wear them all the time...I have a tan line from them! :)
The best ones are these:

Havaianas:
http://www.havaianasus.com/index.html?ovchn=GGL&ovcpn=Havaianas&ovcrn=sr2HA1go3713sb5pi3ai12+hawaianas&ovtac=PPC&SR=sr2HA1go3713sb5pi3ai12&gclid=CP-G_LfW9ZQCFQVxFQodMCClrQ

A little pricey, but worth it. I order online, but I have also found them at Water water everywhere, that bathing suit store.

Enjoy!

I never wore flip flops because they had no support and weren't comfortable AT ALL! Two years ago I discovered Crocs Flip Flops and I LOVE THEM!!! They are just as comfy as my running shoes. I live in them now! They are worth the money.

My absolute favorite are Reef flip flops. They are $$ (around $35?) but so worth it. I have had mine for a few years now and wear them almost every day- 9 months out of the year. I usually find mine at Nordstroms.

http://www.amazon.com/Reef-Butter-Womens-Sandals-Ribbon/dp/B001872RD2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1217904439&sr=1-2

If you get comfy ones, they will not hurt between the toes. If they do, it will get better after a little while.

I love the brown leather Rainbow brand sandals. Around 35-40 but they last forever (I've had my current pair for 4 yrs) and I wear them every day in the summer!!

Crocs. I wore them last year during a pregnancy and they were so supportive. I got a new pair this year, and I really am not looking forward to cooler weather when I can't wear them anymore. I haven't found a pair of Crocs clogs that fit well, but I really love the flip flops.

Interesting thread. I always think the toe part would hurt as well. Plus, they are so noisy, I think it would drive me nuts to walk in them. But, now I'm checking them all out :).

Teva Elina or Olawahu are sooooo comfy!

http://www.amazon.com/Teva-Womens-Elina-Sandal-Helix/dp/B0017LU1CI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1217907527&sr=8-2

Also beware of Reef - they run very narrow.

you have the get used to the thing between your toes. I HATED flip flops till this year. I always had some adidas slide type sandals and they were out of my size. I needed some shoes for around the pool on spring break and we happened to be in Old Navy so I picked up a pair of flip flops... been wearing them ever since and I too have a tan line on my feet from them! LOL

I have always heard good things about Havaianas. My neighbor loves her croc flip flops.

:yeahthat: I have the same issue. I own one pair (Rockports) and consider them by the pool things only. Besides with size 11 feet, I can't say that I like to call attention to my feet. They are perfectly nice, but they are darn large and I have long toes which don't quite work with most flip flops. I am still bitter about going up a size 5 years ago with T.

i totally agree! the Reef style i like is called "slap" and has arch support (i don't know if all their styles do). there is a little triangle with lines between the toe part and lines on the side.

like this:

and

OMG! they are so comfy. i never could wear flip flops til i found these and now i wear them EVERY DAY.

Not any more. I wore them as a child and the piece between the toes did bother me. I have a cheap pair from Old Navy that I bought in anticipation of a pedi that didn't happen.

I prefer what I call slides - no idea what the actual term is.

eta: the term is slides! hey, I got some "fashion" thing right! examples http://payless.resultspage.com/search?w=slides

for water friendly type flip flops, i like the teva olowahu's someone else already posted a link to. i can wear them for moderate walking around (say 1-2 hours).

for everyday walking flip flops (more a sandal than a true flip flop) i'm a mephisto helen die hard - it's hands down the most comfortable shoe, let alone thong, on the face of the planet (at least on my feet ;).

I love Flojos flip-flops. Check out shoebuy.com - I bought the grey pair with the pink flower print on them...very cute and comfy!

I normally don't wear flip flops because I'm not used to the piece between the toes. But I did get a pair from Teva. They've got thinner straps, and more of them, so a little "dressier" looking. I got a pair in black with red straps. I really like them!

I love the LLBean flip flops above all others (and I love flip flops). The bottom is really cushioned, and the piece that goes between your toes is ribbon, so it's soft. I have 3 pair, and they have never needed to be "broken in"-- they're really comfortable right from the beginning.

I wear them daily. My favorites right now are these from Clark:

I also love the ones I have bought at Ann Taylor Loft.

I love me some flip flops in the summer, there is no other shoe! :)

I've been wearing those Clarks all summer. Got them at TJMaxx for about $25ish so they must have been last year's model. (they have starfish on the footbed instead of shells.)

I also have a pair from Aerosoles that are sooooo comfortable.

I wear flip flops every single day. I have probably owned something like 100 pair throughout my 33 years!
Hands down the most comfortable flip flops I have ever owned are these Teva Olowahus:
http://www.rei.com/product/707196

Only downside is that they got a little smelly after every day use for a few months. But maybe that's just my funky feet, not sure.
So I also rotate in my leather rainbows. I really like the leather soles, since the black foam like the Teva's and my Reef's gets the bottom of my feet a little black.

I have dress flip flops, beach flip flops, house flip flops etc.
If you are going for comfort though, get those Teva's, you will not be dissapointed.

Havaianas absolutely rule. They are amazing flip-flops. The second poster included a link to purchase - they run large, so order a size smaller than your usual size (I wear 8-8.5 in shoes, and 7 in Havaianas).

I have fit flops from bath and body works. I don't know if they really work in toning my legs, although I must say that my calves have gotten more definition over the summer. But they have good support that I like.

Another Reef fan. I used to just buy the cheap ones from Old Navy but they weren't comfortbale and provided no support. About 3 years ago, finally caved and spent the money on my Reefs and I love, love, love them.

I have the following pairs:

Go to Target and try the cheap ones. Some people do not like the piece that goes between the toes. DH hates flip flops b/c of that (his toes are really close together). I love flip flops, but cannot stand the ones that are very hard plastic between my toes (gives me blisters). Sometimes the fabric ones or the cheapy ones work best for me. I live in them all summer long. When I was PG with DD they were the only thing I could get on my feet.

My chiropractor says flip-flops give her a lot of business. :) Not much support, and so on. I wear them when I take the DS's out in the yard, and on short shopping trips, but they definitely have not been helping the back pain I've now got with future DC3 on the way. Of course they are the $3 Old Navy kind. . .

I have some from HIC (Hawaiian Island Creations) and Nike, but this year I just bought some FitFlops and I think those are the MOST comfortable I've ever worn. They're not the prettiest, but for all-day walking, they are definitely the most cushy. It took me a couple days to get used to the toe piece, but if you really want to, you could use blisterblock stick to help while your "toughening up" that skin; it doesn't take long at all.

I got lucky and found FitFlops @ Foot Locker during their F&F sale, but now I'm really wanting the Isos line with the ombre straps. Pretty!

I keep hearing that Havaianas are special b/c they have some patented sole that's supposed to be super cushy, but I don't get it. They don't feel all that different from my HIC ones...

I think Adidas has some flip flops with gel soles - I saw them @ Foot Locker and other shoe stores - they're super comfy but I think they would get dirty quick.

Thanks for asking this question, Corie! I've been needing a new pair of flip flops!

I ordered a pair of the Teva Olawahu to pick up from REI for $15. I figured I could try on some others while I am there picking them up and get some new water bottles while I'm at it!

I have a bad back from to many years of nursing and lifting people....with that said, I could never wear flip flops until I tried the Reef Slap sandals. They are so comfortable and give me enough support that I can walk an entire day all through Disney World with them and have NO problems. I always recommend them.
