How do you tell if your child is teething?

How do you know when your child is teething? Our DD is 12 weeks and she has been chewing/sucking on her hands and drooling a lot for the past week. Is it too early for this?

That sounds like when DS started. His friends have 1-2 teeth. He has 7.

Also - not sure if you use a paci but I put mine in the freezer for a few minutes to chill it down and DS loves it.
