I'm trying to get DD to eat something different for breakfast.

I gave her cream of wheat this morning, and she loved it. Then...I realized that I had bought the maple and brown sugar -- boy, is it loaded with sugar.

I want to give it to her again, but I would prefer to buy the original and sweeten it myself.

What do you use to sweeten your cream of wheat?

TIA

brown sugar
raisins
honey

I buy the Farina brand (same difference). I add some brown sugar or regular sugar, cinammon, a splash of vanilla extract and I make it with milk.

I don't sweeten Oatmeal or CofW with anything other than fresh fruit slices. Maybe a sprinkle of cinnamon once in awhile, but no sugar sweeteners at all. She doesn't seem to mind at all!

:yeahthat: for the most part.

Sometimes we use a smidgen of maple syrup.

I just like butter with my cream of wheat. Simple and yummy.

:yeahthat: DD loves peaches, bananas, and cinnamon in her hot cereal. We have also added no sugar added applesauce.

Brown sugar & milk for me. When DS was eating hot cereal (I wish he still would on occasion) I mixed in pureed fruit for him.

Applesauce, raspberry puree or frozen blueberries that have been thawed.

Either brown sugar or maple syrup. Sometimes with a tiny bit of butter or some cinnamon sugar. Yum!

Sometimes I stir in a spoonful of fruit preserves--makes a pretty swirl pattern too!

we haven't had any for a long time, but we sweetened with honey or sometimes maple. to add a really nice subtle flavor, i would put in 4 cardamon pods and remove them when serving.

Yogurt and mashed bananas are favorites around here. No sugar necessary, other than the sugar in the Stoneyfield Farms vanilla or lemon yogurt.

Yum, I love CofW and it reminds me of my own childhood!

You can use organic 100% apple juice rather than water or milk (or half juice half milk) to make it, then add some cinnamon/raisins whatever after. Applesauce also adds sweetness....people have probably already said these though!

You have some freak company.:) I like butter and salt in mine too. But I use butter and sugar in my grits.

THat sounds really good, I'm going to have to get a box. I like the butter idea. We used to get the chocolate kind when I was a kid.

Mashed banana is good in oatmeal or c of w...

You could always mix half sugary c of w with half plain to cut the sugar content...

I personally like brown sugar and a little milk, DS likes it with a little milk and a handful of frozen berries - sweetens it and cools it down enough to eat.

Not a freak! This is how I like it too! Sometimes I add a tiny bit of brown sugar.

SIL bought me some farina at a bulk food store and I don't recall the recipe.

I put in dried cranberries or blueberries, or fresh blueberries.
