View Full Version : I think this is Costco's new play kitchen for the 2008 holiday season....

If I'm not mistaken, I think this is Costco's play kitchen for this season. The Kidkraft link for it notes that it is only available at Costco and Costco.com (see below the actual description). If you do a zip code search, it doesn't seem available anywhere but online. But the fact that it says it is available at Costco and Costco.com makes me think it will hit warehouses sometime soon. If it is $139.99 shipped through Costco.com, it will probably be even cheaper in the Costco warehouses (assuming the warehouses will have them at some point). Just a thought for all you kitchen seekers for Xmas! And it's gender neutral!

It looks similar to, but is not the same as the Kidkraft's Lucy's Red Kitchen below:

Oh, that is just adorable. Too bad we bought the retro one two years ago.

That IS cute! We got the Primary Island one from them online about this time last year. Seemed like there was a shortage of gender neutral ones on the horizon, so I called the Costco.com and Kidkraft to see if there were many left. I hated to ask MIL to order it really early, but she did. I think I got one of the very last ones in stock.

I think ours is about 7-8" taller than the red one which is good for later, but DD has to stand on her tippy toes to reach inside the microwave.

When she saw it on my screen she said, "Hey, that's MY kitchen" and ran over to grab the phone and make DS talk to Grandma :)

FYI - Non Costco members can order it too, you just have to pay a little bit more. If you have a Costco member friend, you can use their membership number online.

That's nice. I have a plastic one that is not nearly as functional as some of the white wooden ones. I may have to think about this one. DS loves the retro one at PBK. Do you think this is comparable?

Our local Costcos just got them in today. I saw them for $128.99.

I'm pretty sure that the PBK red wooden kitchen pieces are larger scale than this new Costco red Kidkraft one. This new red Costco model is definitely shorter than the traditional Kidkraft large kitchen that has been around for years. About 5 inches shorter, I think, than the Kidkraft large kitchen below. My take is that the PBK red kitchen pieces are probably better made and larger in scale size than the new Costco Kidkraft, but for the price, I don't think you can go wrong with getting the Costco one. I personally would get the Costco Kidkraft one for the price and functionality. I figure a play kitchen is good for maybe a few solid years of fun, so I wouldn't pay four times the price for one at PBK, even though they are super cute. If we didn't already have a kitchen, I would jump all over this red one. I love the gender neutral, red retro look. Also, you can't go wrong with Costco's excellent return policy.

This is the larger size Kidkraft one that has been around for years:

But the new red Costco model looks larger to me than the Kidkraft pink retro set that Costco sold the last two holiday seasons. That one seemed smaller scale.

P.S. From what I recall, the play kitchens at Costco sell out fast. So if you want one, get it now.

Karen, thanks for the info on the comparison. The Costco one seems like a good value, esp. compared to the plastic ones. Maybe a good Xmas idea for DS?
