No need to identify yourselves... just curious...

ETA: can't edit poll... the third choice should read "35 - 42" ...sorry...

Before I saw your update, I was confused about which to pick - "27-34" or "34-42". I figured I'm 34, but I feel closer to 42 than 27, so I was going to pick that one ..

I'm 24, married for 2 years, have b/g twins (4 wks. old) so one child for each year I've been married, and most of the time I feel quite clueless!

If you're only as old as you feel, then I'm 127.

It was fun for me to be able to check that first box. I'm 26 but also feel at least 56 so encouraging to remind myself that I am still young (ish)!

That's what I always say!!! When I hear, "You're only as old as you feel" I think, "Then I'm screwed! I'm 31 and feel like I'm 81!"

I think I could actually hang with my grandmother and her friends. I could keep up with them when all they talk about are their ailments!!!

I think 27-34 is such a wide range. I'm so different at 33 than I was at 27.

However, the biggest difference is having had 2 kids. I guess motherhood makes us all in the same "developmental stage" no matter our age!

I think 27-34 is such a wide range.

Yep it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to separate adult ages into only 5 groups.

I thought for the most part:

18 - 26; young adult but not quite 'settled' in views, opinions, careers, etc

27 - 34; still have 'young-ish' ideas but not really middle aged

35 - 42; mature adult, pretty much settled, opinions usually not as pliable, middle aged

43 - 55; the upper end of middle aged, starting to plan/think about retirement, may still have young children but perhaps entering into a whole different genre of adulthood

55 +; I realize that this age group would encompass quite a few ...but on this board I thought most of us would be under 60ish...

I thought it would be a fun poll to see what the age groupings are here... seems to be an interesting and diverse crowd on this board.

If you live to 100, 35 is not "middle aged"!

I say this because I'd like to live 100 years and not be middle aged in two years! ;)

ETA: According to Wikipedia, I'm wrong. EEK!: "The US Census lists middle age as including both the age categories 35 to 44 and 45 to 54, while Erik Erikson sees it ending a little later and defines middle adulthood as between 40 and 65."

Oy!!!!
I am a "mature" adult.
A: I am NOT mature ;)
B: Ugh! Sounds SO old (which I guess I am :()

I'm 28. I was 22 when T was born, so I am used to being in the youngest group of moms here. So I was surprised to realize I was clicking NOT the youngest option.

I'd challenge this list. I sort of see 40s and 50s as middle age. Maybe that's because people in my family live long lives, LOL. People in their 30s and early 40s seem young to me.

And then you have 28 year-olds who are settled, well into saving for/planning retirement and consider themselves flexible but hardly "pliable" in their views. That would be me. :ROTFLMAO:

I'm 39 and don't thik of myself as "middle aged"

Of course when I was pregnant, I didn't think of myself as a "geriatric mother" or of "advanced maternal age" either.

Of course that doesn't meen I don't think of other people my age as being "middle aged". Looking at old high school and college friends on their Facebook profiles, I keep thinking some of them look downright middle aged.

But at least I can console myself with the fact that the entire cast of "Friends" is also middle aged.

I'm 42, and was quite surprised a couple of years ago when I realized that I was "middle aged".

The years meant little, but the classification - and the fact that I was mentoring younger women in the workplace as *I* had wanted to be mentored - really shook me.

I realized, though, that life is so rich and so impossibly impermanent that I find myself more closely following and enjoying everything. Much more than I did even 10 years ago.

Well at 25 I am definitely one of the younger members but I can tell you I am settled in my opinions and my views. Of course, I've always been beyond my years! :hysterical: :ROTFLMAO:

Actual age - 37
Age I feel physically most days - 137
Age I make myself feel too keep up w/ the kids - 17
Which makes my average age - 63...PRICELESS!

Really though - I keep up w/ fashion and try to stay *w/it* for my 13 yo sake, lol! My body is just broken!

Since when is 'middle aged' a bad thing? Lol! How about... "middle staged"?

Well to make y'all feel better I'm over 40. ;-) And I view myself as middle aged... but I dont' feel badly about it. I mean... if I have as many years ahead of me as I do behind me... sheesh... that's a lot of years.

Makes me tarred just thinkin' about it! :-)

I am 43--had DS at 37 and DD at 40. I am sooooooo tired. I was not capable of being married until I was 30 an not aa parent until I was about 35. So I got married at 35 and the rest is history.

I am glad that I am at a point in my career where I can pretty much work what I want when I want. I am glad that all debts but the house are paid off and there is money for child related things. (or nice adults-only vacations :cheerleader1: ) I am glad that I am secure in who I am so when my kids want to wear whacko things in public I don't care. I am really enjoying getting to know these neat little people. But being pregnant was hard on me and I am really tired keeping up with these little folks. If I had it to do over again, I would have better self esteem, gotten married at 28 and had kids between 30-35.

The cool thing for me is the amount of growth I am going through. How can I have a mid life crisis when my life is very clearly mapped out for the next 15 years--I will be 58 when DD graduates from high school. Maybe DH and I can retire around 60 and do some humanitarian work for a few years. So I am not worried about age at this point--just life experience.

I was at a point where my education was done, I could take certificate stuff if I wanted to, my career was about as far as I wanted it, and I was happy with DH. Having children has been a huge growth experience for me. I have reached depths of patience I never knew I had. I never realized you could love another person so much. And it is a daily challenge to parent DS who has a personality that is so opposite of mine. I really have to do research, ask advice, etc. I love getting synced to their rythms and having the days go well.

I'm 41. I had my kids just before I turned 36. If this is middle age then I'm feeling pretty good! :) I usually forget how old I am...I have two 5 year olds and I work with 7/8 year olds all day. Most days, just a big kid myself.

I've never felt so old as I did when I read the description for 35-42yr olds. In fact, I feel far more 27 than I do 35! :cheerleader1:

I'm digging "thristy thirties," either I need coffee, or I need a drink...
