Has anyone had a standard mattress NOT fit their crib?

So I was all set to order my mattress online and decided to go do a little more research. Most mattresses say "fits standard size cribs" yet I have already seen a few different dimensions. We have the Da Vinci Mercer crib and the mattress they recommend for it is 52" by 27.5" by 6". I measure the crib area where the mattress to go at just less than 52" (51.5). I was planning on ordering the Colgate I Classica but now I'm worried that it won't fit and returning a mattress would be a huge PIA.

Do you think a standard mattress should fit if it is the recommended one even though I measure it a little less?

Anyone else have any mattress problems?

Yeah, my sealy is really, really tight in my JCpenny crib. I really have to yank it hard to get it out. It's a PITA
