they're turning off our air conditioner this Thursday, live in a building & it's way to quiet with them off especially for Jacob, my almost 8 month old, he wake's up to almost every sound !

I looked at Bed Bath & Beyond website but only see one that take's batteries, I want one that plug's in & play's all night.

Anyone know where to find one ?

We have an older, cheaper version of this one: http://www.target.com/HoMedics-Sound-SPA-Relaxation-Machine/dp/B0009Y2E42/sr=1-11/qid=1224002114/ref=sr_1_11/601-3981386-6502547?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Asound%20machine&page=1

We've had it over 3.5 years and it's still going strong. :)

After hearing about the Marpac sound machines on here, we've been on the verge of getting one of theirs. The company told me the cheapest place to buy them is http://soundmachinesdirect.com/

I like the idea of the traveling one, but when I was getting a facial, the girl had the Sleepmate plugged in. Very dreamy.

Thanks everyone, I was in Target over the weekend & forgot to look for one there, meanwhile that was one of the reason's we went !

The one I'm looking at at Bed Bath & Beyond say's it has a home adapter, does that mean you can plug it in ?

For my DD we bought a CD/ Tape player & still we play it for her, lullaby music, wonder which would be better for him. Unless I go with the one that also play's the music. I am so BAD with decision's, how pathetic !

BBB has the same one at Target for $19.99:

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13630208

If you use a 20% coupon, you will only be paying $16. That's not a huge investment. Ours has been in use for over a year with no problem.

Check your local pharmacy also. Our RiteAid, CVS, and Walgreen's all have them.

Or just load an ipod with sounds (like from HBOTB or other white noise cds) and run that....

Our sound machines died quick deaths, so we gave up on them.

O MOM that one look's nice but doesn't play all night, or does it ??

If my DH can't get to the store by Thursday I'll try CVS .

Thanks everyone !

Here is the instruction manual:

"Auto-timer lets you choose how long you listen – 15, 30, 60 minutes or continuously"

Here is another option that seems to get good reviews at Target:

I second the vote on Marpac. We got one for each of the kids and we love it. My son sleeps with his door open so all the sound goes to his room. But with the marpac sleep machine, it's just background noise. Now I'm thinking about buying one for me. My DH snores way too loud but I still need to be able to hear the kids if they are crying. So can't use ear plugs.

I have a marpac in DD's room. I bought it from a company through ebay. The price was the same but they offered free shipping.

Bought this one a few months ago. Love it. We use it on the "waterfall" sound which is a continuous white noise. Works well at blocking out all the kitchen noise that travels up to DDs room (we have an open foyer that echos like crazy). It does plug in and it can run all night.

We have Marpacs for my husband (sleeps in a separate room, snores loud enough to peel paint off the walls) and for DD. Love them both. I have a Brookstone clock radio w/ sound machine that I use, but if something happened to that one, I'd get another Marpac.

We take the Marpac when we travel. They aren't difficult to pack up and move around. *Love* them.

Is there an advantage of a sound machine over the same genre CD on a CD player? I feel like I'm missing something.

We also have the marpac in both girls rooms. Especially if you are used to the sound of the a/c it's similar. It basically just sounds like a fan without the wind.

It's also small enough that you can pack in in your suitcase when traveling.

This is the one we have:

We also have Marpacs in both kids rooms. We have both the standard and deluxe model, and I don't see much benefit to the "deluxe." We LOVE them and it is the first thing I tell new moms to buy. I was forever forgetting to turn it off/on, so now I just pretty much leave them on all the time. The one in DDs room has been on practically 24/7 for almost two years, and it is still like new. I think one came from Hammacher Schlemmer and the other I ordered from Amazon.

I have the Brookstone tranquil sounds for baby one. We've run it every night since DS1 was a few weeks old. I break out in cold sweat at the thought of anything happening to it.

KHF: can you still hear your DH snore w/ the machine on? DD co-sleeps and a feather disturbs her. We have to sleep in a different room so that we can sleep at all, still having to use a fan for white noise.

Thanks!

We got ours at amazon and love it. It has worked great for 6 months now. We would not be without it. Friends have it and love it too and it is cheap.

I can still hear DH, but the sound machine does help. It makes the noise more constant.

Marpad, Marpac, Marac.

Between the Marpac and the electronic/clock radio ones, there is absolutely no comparison. We have two Marpacs - one in each child's room. We travel with them with no problems - I just toss them in each kid's duffel bag.

didn't look at all the suggestions, but we have this one from bb&b, $15 with coupon.

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13630208

WOW that's everyone has been so helpful ! Not sure my DH will go for the Marpac, kind of expensive, I emailed him 2, we'll se ewhat he think's.

One more ?? for the owner's of the Marpac, is it louder then other sound machine's. I like one of them from BBB that a few people sent, the Homedic's Sound Spa, wish I could hear them both. The Homedic's is half the price.
