So we have a laundry room sink, which is great for throwing bibs with food, soaking, handwashing. However it does not have a garbage disposal, and I think some of the food got down the drain, and I can smell it. I am guessing food is caught in the u section at the bottom of the drain. This I am wondering if it is safe to use something like draino/liquid plumer in this situation, or if I need to call a plumber?? Hate to use those chemicals if I don't need them. But then a bottle of this stuff is cheaper than a house call. Other times with sluggish drains, I've used a zip it and gotten whatever debris or hair out, and had good drainage. But I don't think this will reach all the way down.

Try putting baking soda followed by vinegar. You can rinse it all down with boiling water.
