Anyone have any reccomendations on a doctor set for a 4 year old? He has a younger brother so I don't want something wilth a ton of small parts. Just the basics. He especially likes stethoscopes so I want to make sure whatever set we get has a really good one with sound (or is there a kit with a real working stethoscope?). Thermometer and medicine dropper are a plus. Also open to a vet set if it meets the above criteria.

I was just looking at one at Costco yesterday. You might want to check it out. Sorry I can't remember the price, around $20 I think.

We have the Parents Animal Hospital from Target. Has a stethescope, but certainly not real. No med dropper, but we have enough of those around the house! :) Both DDs (ages 3 & 5) still love this set. Has been used on both animals and humans - I had no idea we were so sick, lol!

Along the same lines, this is the one we have.

The stethescope makes heartbeat sounds. There is thermometer, but no medicine dropper. There is a syringe though. I like that everything fits into the case and DD can easily get everything back in when it's time to clean up.

We love the Parents Magazine Animal Hospital as well. My DD still plays with it occasionally.

As for a doctor set, this is the one we had when DD was a young toddler:

I also saw the cutest doctor set in the Cool Toyz section of Target, which I couldn't resist.

For an older child, a Learning Resources set would be great.

A kid was over here playing the other day and asked for our doctor set. Ummm....ain't got no.... I was pleasantly surprised that we actually don't have every toy that exists!

I like what MaiseyDog says about her DD being able to get everything back in the box on her own. I may just put this set on the Christmas list for that feature alone!

The LR kit looks great, but it looks like a puzzle to put everything back.

Just don't get the International Playthings (http://www.amazon.com/International-Playthings-G02021-Little-Doctor/dp/B00005BHUR/ref=pd_bbs_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1224134332&sr=8-4) one. it falls apart, parts don't fit back in the box - kinda junky. It was a gift for DD, and while she plays with it a ton, it isn't great quality. Another one I would skip, even though I love most of their stuff, is the Haba one - the box is nice, but the contents are pretty dinky.

We have the Parents magazine (target) animal hospital one too and it gets more playtime than the fisher price one. I'd recommend the animal hospital one over a, "regular" doctor set any day. I believe it allows the kids more creative play, b/c they can treat the animals that come with the set as their patients.
