If so, can you remember one of them? I know that we sang some Halloween songs when I was little but my dh thinks I am nuts. :)

we totally sang halloween songs!

to the tune of where is thumbkin

jack o'lantern, jack o' lantern
halloween, halloween
see the witches flying, hear the wind sighing
ooo ooo ooo, ooo ooo ooo

---------------------------------

witches, ghosts and goblins
walking down the street
knock on every doorway
trick or treat!
when your door is open,
this is what you'll see
scary creatures shouting
trick or treat!

---------------------------------

five little pumpkins sitting on the gate
the first one said oh my it's getting late
the second one said there are witches in the air
the third one said but we don't care
the fourth one said let's run and run and run
the fifth one said get ready for some fun
then ooooooooooo went the wind
and out went the light
and the five little pumpkins went rolling out of sight

--------------------------------------
black cat, black cat
looking for a witch
black cat, black cat,
night as dark as pitch
you can see me cause your eyes are green
black cat, black cat
this is HALLOWEEN (boo!)

Jack o' lantern, jack o' lantern
You are such a funny sight
As you sit there in the window
Looking out at the night.

You were once a yellow pumpking
Growing on a sturdy vine
Now you are a jack o' lantern
Look at how your light shines.

--------------------------------
Punkey punkey was a happy punkey
And do you know why
Because he was a jack o' lantern
and not a pumpkin pie.

(A little morbid I know, but DD doesn't "understand" and likes it a lot! LOL!)

Here is a link to one of my favorites. It has an audio clip with it as well. It has a long intro, but I remembered loving that part as a kid.

We used to sing this one too.

Raffi has several on his various albums.

Sarah tells me they have been singing The Goblin's Got the Blues and Pick a Pick a Pick a Pumpkin. Neither of which I know and which vexes her greatly.

Wasn't there one about a witch flying over haystacks or something?...

I know it's not much to go on, but that is going to bug me!

eta: I remember! something like:
1 little, 2 little 3 little witches
flying over haystacks, jumping over ditches
flew to the moon and tore their britches
Hi-Ho Halloween's here...

Or something like that!

Yes! And you are awesome for starting this thread b/c I've been meaning to look some up. 5 little pumpkins was my favorite, but I also remember singing one that went

H-A_Double L-O-W-Double E-N spells Halloween! I can't remember any other lines for the life of me, but DS loves just that one. LOL

Yes!!! I loved that one. I can't remember any other lyrics to it, either.

We also sang:
There was an old woman all skin and bones
Wooooh, ooooh, oooh oooh

She lived down by the old graveyard
Wooooh, ooooh, oooh oooh

One night she thought she'd take a walk
Wooooh, ooooh, oooh oooh

She went down by the old graveyard
Wooooh, ooooh, oooh oooh

She saw the bones a layin' around
Wooooh, ooooh, oooh oooh

She went to her closet to get a broom
Wooooh, ooooh, oooh oooh

She opened the door and BOO!

Along with some of the other songs already posted, I remember singing:

It's Halloween and it's spooky out tonight.
Please be very careful or you'll give yourself a fright!
It's Halloween and it's spooky out tonight.

I remember the whole school singing Halloween songs during an assembly. The only one I remember is:

The worms crawl in
The worms crawl out
The worms play pinochle
On your snout

I think I remember it because I thought it sounded gross!

The link that I posted previously is for the song I think you guys are thinking of.

Is this it?

“H - A - double L – O – W - double E – N” spells Halloween,

“H - A - double L – O – W - double E – N” spells Halloween!

Halloween means ghosts & goblins,

Skeletons, monsters, & howling cats,

Spooky masks & jack-o-lanterns,

Witches & devils & big, black bats!

“H - A - double L – O – W - double E – N” spells Halloween,

“H - A - double L – O – W - double E – N” spells Halloween!

Halloween means ringing doorbells,

Scaring the people who open the door.

“Trick or treat” gets you candy and apples,

Then go to the next house and get some more.

“H - A - double L – O – W - double E – N” spells Halloween,

“H - A - double L – O – W - double E – N” spells Halloween!

The link is really cool because it has the spooky intro. Here it is again:

I can't remember what we sang in school, but I listen to the Wee Sing for Halloween cd in the car with my kids *all* the time. It's really not bad and my kids looooove it. It's got something like 50 Halloween songs on it, some very short.

our version was similar, but the 4th line went:

slidin' down the moon without any britches
oh-oh Halloween's here

I am so happy this thread was started. We used to sing this song in elementary school and we all LOVED it! Our music teacher would draw a picture of the house and the graveyard (he also worked the woods and a set of railroad tracks into the song). I have been trying to remember the lyrics to the song! Thanks so much for posting! It brings back some fun memories.

I loved the Pumpkins song too.

Yes, that must be it! The lyrics still aren't ringing any bells for me, but since it was nearly 30 years ago, I guess it's not that surprising. :ROTFLMAO:

Thanks for the link- I'm definitely going to play it for DS. He'll be thrilled!

I totally remember singing a song called "Witch's Brew".

And then last week, my daughter came home singing it.

She couldn't believe I knew the song!! :)

Another one that I can only remember a few words:

There's something moaning (?) in the old oak tree
blahh blah

But I'm not scared cause I'm safe inside
I'm not scared but I think I'll hide...

I need to look these up!

I don't remember much except for the first couple of lines. I wish I knew how the rest of the song went.

Hall-o-ween is coming, ha ha ha (scary witchy laugh)
Hall-o-ween is coming, ha ha ha

the one that sticks in my head was Ghoul days...

Ghoul Days, Ghoul Days, goody goody ghoul days
Ringing the bell at your neighbors place
hearing him yell at your funny face
You were the greatest ghost I've seen
I was the witch who's hair was green
and we haunted the house on Halloween
when we were a couple of ghouls!

We also sang the one eyed, one ear flying purple people eater, but that REALLY dates me :)

I remember the "old woman all skin and bones", "five little pumpkins", and the one about the witches flying over the haystacks or whatever.

But my favorite one was "The Boogie Woogie Ghost". I don't remember much of it....

He was the Boogie Woogie Ghost
He was the Ghostie with the Most

...and that's it. I remember it was a really fun song to sing, though. :)
