In light of the thread with the question about whether anyone got the email with junk about Obama, I thought I would share the latest. I posted in that one that I had responded to my sil with snopes.com and that people should check there before forwarding emails. I got this from her last night. It was forwarded by several people as well.

"I have suspected some problems with Snopes for some time now, but I have only caught them in half-truths.

I have recently discovered that Snopes.com is owned by a flaming liberal and this man is in the tank for Obama. There are many things they have listed on their site as a hoax and yet you can go to Youtube yourself and find the video of Obama actually saying these things. So you see, you cannot and should not trust Snopes.com....ever for anything that remotely resembles truth! I don't even trust them to tell me if email chains are hoaxes anymore.

A few conservative speakers on Myspace told me about snopes.com <http://snopes.com/> a few months ago and I took it upon myself to do a little research to find out if it was true. Well, I found out for myself that it is true. This website is backing Obama and is covering up for him. They will say anything that makes him look bad is a hoax and they also tell lies on the other side about McCain and Palin.

Anyway, just FYI I suggest that you don't use Snopes.com anymore for fact checking, and make your friends aware of their political leanings as well.

Many people still think Snopes.com is neutral and they can be trusted as factual. We need to make sure everyone is aware that that is a hoax in itself."

A better source for verification is"Truth or Fiction.com" at http://www.truthorfiction.com/

Ha! That is so funny.

You should refer the person to the snopes.com FAQ's, which covers how they verify stories, how they receive compensation, etc.

Of course, she/he won't believe it. People that just forward things without checking have their own agenda and usually it's not very logical (on either end of the political spectrum).

Even funnier! I am having my own personal fun with this thread (as evidenced by the number of posts I'm making to it)

Also, just to add, everyone's a flaming something. Even if that means flaming moderate or flaming don't give a crap and don't bother to vote.

She's pretty passive. I'm betting it will be computer silence. Also, I sent everyone the factcheck.org website too.

It just drives me nuts that people automatically believe those emails! I think your first tip-off that something may be slanted, or not true, is when someone uses the word "flaming" to describe something they are revealing about someone else!

This wasn't an email, but just goes along with the "it's amazing what people believe" idea, and I didn't think it deserved it's own thread!

Did anyone else see The Daily Show last night? There was a piece by John Oliver where he went to both an Obama and a McCain rally. I'd like to think it was creative editing, but I don't know...it was so scary! Now, there were people at the Obama rally who thought John McCain in office would be "scary", but their reasons were more along policy lines. The stuff the McCain rally people they talked to said...oh my!!! "He's going to get in there, put a turban on and America as we know it is done." Oy!! Who ARE these people? I know not all McCain supporters believe this stuff!!

I just hope after Nov. 4 that I never have to hear the phrase "in the tank" again.

I emailed snopes to send them the email. Here is their response. I'll be forwarding that too. :)

The information you received is inaccurate. Neither of the operators of
snopes.com has any affiliation with, has ever made a donation to, or has
ever publicly expressed support for any political party or candidate. See
http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/s/snopes.htm,

for more information on this subject.

Similar rumors circulate every election year. See

this phenomenon.

Stewart and Colbert are both liberal, as are their staff. I suspect they edited that one for entertainment value, to make the Rs look crazy.

And FTR, I am loud, proud, rabid, true-blue D who has never voted for an R. I love The Daily Show and Colbert Report, and I admit I get a lot of my news through them. But you do have to take their pieces with a grain of salt.

Seriously? Buffy and Spike? Man, I have lost all respect ;) Angel is clearly the one for her...

I'm sorry, Fivi, I understand the disappointment. It all started when Willow's spell went all wrong and we got that taste of Buffy with Spike. That was some good eatin', man. Imagine my disappointment in myslef as my loyalties turned as they happened! Prior to that, I was all about Angel. And I loved Angel all the way thru. But, I can quote/sing/quote again Once More with Feeling chapter and verse. Mmmmm. But I'm a Buffy-Spike Shipper thru and thru.

Flaming!

John Oliver's clips generally makes me laugh pretty hard. Being 8 months pregnant now, I have to make sure that I use the restroom prior to watching the Daily Show :)

I'm a Dem through and through, so TDS is my main source of TV "news" now...I think at this point in the election process I *need* to laugh! I don't know if the conservatives have anything like TDS or not...if not, they should! Their constituency deserves to laugh too :D

In case anyone's interested, Charlie Rose on PBS had a bunch of folks from SNL, including Loren Michaels, one of the writers, Seth Meyers, Darrell Hammond, and a deer-in-the-headlights-like-you-would-not-believe Fred Armisen. Talking about the political climate and how it's impacted them, and vice versa. Only saw first half, then I went to bed, but tivo'd it for later. I'm sure it'll repeat or is up online somewhere.
