I don't know if this is necessarily safer, but I can tell you that it works: Sudocrem. http://www.sudocrem.com/ Thanks, Melissa (Bubbaray) :) After receiving recs from mamas here for tons of different diaper rash creams to send to daycare with DS (I, of course, bought most of them to try since i am a first-time parent!)...that's the one we chose, and he hasn't had a problem since. In fact, the daycare wanted to know where we got it since it's been working so well. We stopped our "trial" of CA baby, Burt's Bees, and Weleda because they all have Calendula in them which comes from marigolds which I am allergic to and I didn't want to bet on DS having that allergy as well. That's not to say that they don't work, though. We didn't give either much of a chance so I can't say. They are both more natural in their ingredients so you might want to give them a try. HTH. Oh, the search was prompted by Desitin not working in the first place.

We like Burt's Bees a lot. Check the skindeep website (http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/) for ingredients and toxicity of any cream you're considering.

Have you tried vaseline? I dunno if you could call it "natural" but we've found it works better than a lot of diaper creams we've tried.

I haven't looked up how natural they are but in American Baby magazine they listed the top products chosen by readers.

Desitin
Boudreaux's Butt Paste
A&D
Balmex

Desitin was the #4 product listed so it beat out the others.

I hope you find what you are looking for! :)

We like Dr. Smith's http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Smiths-Diaper-Ointment-3-Ounce/dp/B001F0RB10/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1225316851&sr=8-1

it works well!

My 3 month old dd had a reaction to Cal Baby. I was using Butt Paste with some success but just switched to Desitin and find it works so much better. We have found she can't use anything with citric acid - which most natural products have. Acid on a rash = ouch! They tend to actually CAUSE the rash to get WORSE for her :i( Too bad as we love the good stuff.

For all natural, we make our own wipe solution which helps reduce rash and we "air out" once a day...20 - 30 minutes no diaper, with a wet pad under her while on bed or activity gym. Works wonders. Totally "natural".

We want to switch to making our own cream as well.

A pp said vaseline which has also been recommended to us by a Ped. This can also be good for girls with labial adhesions.
