I'm probably going to get my 3.5yo some Magnatiles for Christmas. However, the $100+ pricetag for 100 pieces is a bit choking for this time of year.

Would 32 pieces be a waste because it is too few?

Or, would 32 pieces work until his 4th birthday in March when we could add on another 32 pieces or even 100 piece?

I wanted to ask those who have Magnatiles. I don't want to get 32 pieces if he will get frustrated by the lack of pieces.
Thanks!!
Stephanie

Look at the other threads about them. MIL just ordered us the 100 piece set from a code that makes them about $85ish.

ETA : Code - from kayte ETA- I searched online and found another code CIC , it takes 10% off and free shipping over $59 ---I used it and got the 100 piece set shipped for $85 (will vary a little based on taxes).

and the site http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=25168&utm_source=pmail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=110408_EDS&es=204438LIAME&eseg=P&

From what it looks like, people try to start with one set, then end up getting the 100 piece ones later.

Honestly, I'd probably wait until you can get a 100 piece set for his birthday. I think there would be frustration as he runs out of tiles before he builds what he wants to build.

We started with the 32 piece set. DD (was 3.5 at the time) couldn't really build anything big, but she still really enjoyed them and it always kept her busy for awhile. A couple of months ago we got the 100 piece set to add to what we have because our 2 year old is starting to really enjoy them too so they used to fight over the small 32 piece set. I say go for whatever you can afford right now. You'll still want to add to it later, but at least you can see if he enjoys them first.

I just was able to get the set for $83. I *so* appreciate your help. My son will be getting the 100 piece set for Christmas now!

I'd hold off and wait until you could get the 100 piece--the 100 piece clear set, specifically. DDs got the 32 piece solid color set and never touched it. I got them the 100-piece clear set, and they cannot stop playing with it.

Great! I'm glad it worked out. Sorry to push you to spend more money. I seem to do that a lot to my friends. DH and I look forward to playing with them at Christmas also!

I gave my daughter the 32 piece set last year for Christmas, and she really enjoys it...she's just not able to build really big things. She is getting the 100 piece set for Christmas this year.

Just adding another data point - my kiddo started out with the 48 piece DX set, and she enjoys it and plays with it lots. She doesn't know what's she's missing :)

But I am looking to add more pieces ...

PEJE takes 15% off, but shipping is free for $79, I think.

Yes, I tried the PEJE, but I then would have had to pay for shipping (which brought it to over $90) By using the 10% off coupon, I was able to still get free shipping and I paid only $82.50.

YAY!

Thanks. I used PEJE and got free shipping and 15% off. Got some extra art supplies that I've been meaning to order too.
