I am trying to figure out what to get my 2 y.o. ds for Christmas. He likes trains (we have some wooden Thomas and a train table), but I think he would really like a remote control or electronic set.

So, I am confused. Should I buy him a Take Along Thomas set (I think they are remote control)? Try out a GeoTrax set? Or get a battery-powered wooden Thomas train??

And, if recommending GeoTrax or Take Along Thomas, can anyone recommend a good starter set??

TIA!

I know the Geotrax are rated ok for under 3s but I am not sure about that Thomas set so you might want to factor that into your choice.

We love Geotrax here. This year I am not seeing the great sets as they have had in previous years. But, these are what I would get for starters:
25 piece track pack $21

Engine set $21:

If budget allows I would consider getting this 20pc track pack too:

A fun add on is either this rescue tower or a clock tower if you can find one. Bridges are fun too.
Rescue Tower $15:

There is the train station set for $46 and it's pretty good. I just favored the basic track packs so you could have more building options. But, you could just get this and call it a day. Add on one of the small track packs and you'll have a good set up too.

We recently had a Halloween party at my home for my son's playgroup, and all the kids completely went nuts for the Geotrax stuff. I highly recommend Geotrax.

We have a GeoTrax too and my son loves it! We also gave the new starter set as a gift to a boy turning 2 and his mom tells me that it is his new favorite toy. The Thomas Take-Along set is not powered, but it is nice to have if you travel a lot like we do. We take that one with us on our weekend trips.

We own wooden Thomas and Geo Trax. Both are a huge hit. The Geo Trax are great for a two year old. My DD loves to do her train and it's something she and her older brother can play together easily.

Where are you going to purchase the set? I keep seeing it listed but cannot remember whether Target is currently the cheapest place.

I saw the Geotrax grand central station at Target for around $46 and at Toys r us for $49.99 last week. The toys r us one actually came with 2-3 more vehicles on the side of the box as a bonus....it's so hard to price shop when they do that, but i thought the toys r us pack was a better deal since my son LOVES the trains!

You're right, it's hard to compare the packages. I just need time without DS so I can check them out!

Thank you!
