I am trying to find a beginner piano/keyboard. A friend of mine had one where the keys would light up to tell the child which note to play next (on maybe 10 songs or so) and it would play a couple of songs and it would let you play your own songs. It was for preschool and up--not a toy per se.

I looked at VTech and they have one but it is too young for DD. I checked out Toys R Us and they have some bigger ones. Anybody seen one that is between baby toy and a real piano?

Check Craiglist. DH went out for paint one Sunday morning and came home with a great keyboard he had purchased at a yard sale for $5.00! We all love it and it's perfect for kids to bang on since we didn't put any money into it!

DD1 has expressed interest in taking piano lessons, so my parents bought her the Casio LK110 from Costco for $97.99. It isn't a toy piano, but if you are looking for a real keyboard, this might fit the bill. At Costco, it came with a free bonus stand, which values for $19.99 separately.

It's this same one:
