View Full Version : Help me pick a date for a kids New Year's Party!

A few friends and I are tossing around the idea of having
a New Year's Party for our kids. I do not want to have
the party on New Year's Eve. (I really don't like to be out
and about on New Year's Eve.)

I was thinking about Tuesday, Dec. 30th instead. And probably
a late afternoon party.

We are going to have the party at Pump It Up. It has
inflatable bounce houses. Alot of fun!

So, my question is- How does the date sound?

I am figuring that if people are going out-of-town for Christmas
that they would more than likely be coming home on Sunday, Dec. 28th.
Would you think this too?

I just don't want to plan a party for Tuesday, Dec. 30th and then
not have anyone show up.

What do you think?

Hi Corie,

I like the idea of doing it on a different night. I don't like to be out and about on New Year's Eve either....
Is this just for the kids and not so much the parents? The only think I can think of is some parents may still be working early afternoon and not able to attend.
Otherwise it sounds like a blast!!!!

It's just for the kids. Parents can stay and hang out if they
want to but I'm sure most would leave.

Maybe it would be better to do a later party? I wonder
if 7-9pm would be too late. (These would all be kids in
the first grade and there is no school the next day.)

For us, 7-9 would be much too late.

If it were *me* I would do it on New Year's Eve, but in the early afternoon, maybe 2-4 or 3-5. For a lot of people 12/30 is a regular work day, but 12/31 is a lot more flexible. JMO.

I was considering doing something like this at home in the afternoon on New Years' Eve.

7-9 would be fine in my family on the 30th though. There's no school the next day.

Do you need to have it out of the house? That way you wouldn't have to worry about low turnout. Just a thought.

The time slot 7-9pm is not perfect for us. My kids are normally
in bed at 8pm. But I figured since there is no school the next
day, it would be okay. :)

And as far as a home party, I've never been a fan. I prefer to
keep the mess away from my house. Plus, we were thinking
about 25-30 kids. Way too many for a house party.

My problem is that a) my kids never sleep in and b) it's too late *me*. I am just stick a fork in me done by 8 every day, so being out until 9 and then driving home late in the dark....not so much.

But it does sound very fun. :)

Beth,

I hear ya!! My kids are up at 6:30am every day. Sleeping in
for us would be 7am. :)

We actually went to a birthday party at PIU last year. It was the Sat. or Sunday before New Year's(can't remember, sorry). The mom expected many not to show but instead was only missing one or two. I think it was about 20 or so kids. The weekday might throw a wrench but I think you'll be surprised how available people are the week in between. :)

FWIW, I'd be okay with either time since it's vacation time for most.

Personally, I'd do the 3-5 slot on the 31st. It would make the kids and the parents feel like they "did something" for the holiday without having to be "out" when the roads actually get dangerous. Then, they could have dinner at home and go to bed at a normal hour.

My BF is having her dd's birthday party on 12/30 at Pump it Up. Sounds like a great idea to me!
