Cheetah Girls?

OK, obviously I don't get out much, nor do I/we watch much kids TV. I had never heard of the Cheetah Girls until tonight. DD#1 and I were looking on YouTube for Marshmallow World (Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra) and I see something for the Cheetah Girls Marshmallow World. Of course, we click on it.... Its a promo, no video, but then we found the Cheetahlicious Christmas, and well, there ya go. DD#1 preferred Dino and Frank (yeah!), but I can see her liking the Cheetah Girls stuff. We watched a few more videos and they seemed OK. Lots of makeup, but they seemed to have more clothes on that most teen entertainers.

Anyway, is there anything about them that's negative? I'm assuming that once school starts, she'll be more interested in this stuff. The only references to things like HSM and Hanna Montana that she makes currently are after she visits her (older) cousins. The way they are dressed in the Christmas video is pretty similar to how kids dress here.

Yes, there is negative stuff out there. One of them has nude photos on the internet. Her contract ends soon and it was possibly a pr stunt. Google cheetah girl (no s), it will link you to huffington post or foxnews.

We really like the Cheetah Girls. They have some really
fun music. In fact, I just put 3 of their songs on a CD that
I made last night.

My DD just likes the music. She likes to sing and dance along.

I would just take the music for what it is. Music. You aren't
going to show your daughter the nude photos, are you? :)
Then I wouldn't worry about it.

But, I'm pretty easy going about that stuff.

Well, there's Hannah Montana. Aside from her "controversial" photo shoot with Vogue, she seems as close to squeaky clean as you can get. I don't watch her show, but I hear about her a lot on these boards, nothing murky yet.

There's always Mandy Moore, but she's a grownup now, so I don't know if tweeners are into her

There are some VERY questionable photos of Miley Cyrus...she likes to take photos of herself scantily clad and put them on the internet. They are much worse than the Vanity Fair (not Vogue) cover. The ones of Adrienne Bailon - the Cheetah girl - just came out about a week ago. They aren't totally nude but they do show her boo-tay. She's dating a Kardashian and close friends with Kim so heaven knows what kind of scandals she's about to get herself into.

I think the only "young" Hollywood celebrity that has remained pretty tame is the star of Lizzie McGuire...Hilary Duff...but she is getting older now and will likely start to take on some more adult-oriented roles.

You can't really trust any of these girls to keep a squeaky clean image...Hollywood roughs 'em up and before you know it they have sex tapes and are in rehab. Sad.

I think it is just important to monitor your child's online access...there is no way to keep them from finding inappropriate things, real or fake, of their favorite stars. Hell there are even cartoons of the Flintstones doing porn!

It's dissapointing to hear about Adrienne Bailon's picture, but it seems that they were taken for her fiance and they were some how leaked. Thank goodness there wasn't the technology that's out today when I was a teenager/ 20 year old.

I would watch a Cheetah Girl movie first to see if it's appropriate for your daughter. I let my girls listen to the music more than watch the shows. If you are worried about how an artist's lifestyle will influence your daughter than perhaps you should look for Christian artists rather than someone found on Disney.

That's what they all say. :) That the pictures/videos were leaked or stolen...of course it COULD be true, but considering the company she keeps and how her company became famous its a hard one to believe. These sex scandals make people into overnight sensations...much easier than actually working for it!

The Cheetah Girls and the High School Musical cast are pretty harmless in my opinion. The movies are cute and my dd loves them. Both had girls with nude pics. I didn't see the Cheetah Girl one, but I did see the ones with Gabrilla (sp?). Hers were tame and you haven't heard anything since. I bet the Cheetah Girl will be along those lines. These are also older girls.

OTOH, I will not buy Miley Cyrus products or let my dd watch her. I thought her most of her Vanity Fair pictures were creepy. I thought her candid shots that showed up on the internet weren't good choices either, espercially for a 15 yr old. I don't believe she has good handlers and will be caught doing something much worse than showing her stomach or bra on the web.

Does this make sense, probably not, but that is how I feel.

Yes, Adrienne is older. I think she is 25 yrs. old or close to it.
