I've been wanting the Little People one, but have heard the newest version isn't as good; the old one is outrageously priced. Has anyone found a good kid-friendly nativity (for them to actually play with). Maybe a cloth one... Any ideas? TIA!

Are your kids still putting things in their mouth? If choking is not an issue, Playmobile has a cute one.

Where did you hear that? Whats wrong with it? Just curious, have a link?

My local Christian store has last years complete nativity for $39? It has the Touch and Feel animals though.

Not sure if I have the expensive older one or the not as nice newer one (DD received it as a gift for xmas last year) but I'm pretty happy with the Little People set. My guess is it's the newer?

Although, honestly if it's a matter of lights and music I might be ok with none!

Our Christian store was out of stock all last Christmas but I will check back this season. Good idea....I always forget about the stores that I can't fit the double stroller in!

That is not this years Nativity. Toys R Us has not updated their website. Its a little confusing but Fisher Price made two Nativitys last year. The deluxe version with wisemen and shepards that had a light up and sounds stable. Its the same that boyzmom linked to at Walmart. The other version had just the stable with Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, with a few animals. It did not have the light up star and sounds. Its the one on Toys R Us.

Last years without lights and sounds

Last years deluxe with wisemen, shephards, and lights and sounds (this is the one for sale at my local Christian store, they just got these in. I guess not that many people like the touch and feel animals. I've seen the Ark with touch and feel animals at Costco...)

This years Nativity ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!You can buy the sets separatly or all together and save $10. It's the ones with a backdrop.

We have a cloth one by pockets of learning. It is wonderful. The stable zips up and you store all the characters in there.

Sorry - no time to look for a link now. MIL got it for us and she usually shops online, so I bet it is readily available.

We got the Habba one. It is pricey ($100) but I will say that it is really incredibly beautiful, and I wanted one that my daughter would have forever. The animals are just so fun, the whole set up is nice. We only let her play with it on the coffee table with us there (for fear that somethign could break) this year (she is 20 months). When I opened it up and saw how nice it was, I kind of wished that we had gotten the LP one so I wouldn't have to monitor the play so much, but I still am glad that we have the Habba one.

I have a Fontanini set. Has a hard rubbery feel and won't break so the kids can play with it. It's great because you can add pieces each year. The kids like that.

That's the one! We love it. Plus, the company will replace any pieces that you happen to lose. Surprisingly we haven't had to avail ourselves of that service yet...

Last Christmas, my daughter took the baby Jesus from the set with her EVERYWHERE for several weeks.

I have bought a FP nativity (or more) every year for the past 6 years. They are all a bit different in character, lights, sounds - it doesn't matter at all to the kids - everyone seems to LOVE them. When I first bought one there was all this debate about your NEEDED to have the deluxe with sound and lights and it wasn't made that year so going for almost $100 - I did end up finding an old one but really there was no appreciable difference. That's the one I have too, and I got it from Catholic Supply too! I had just gotten off a lot of junk mail catalog lists and figured Catholic Supply wasn't too likely to get me back on the lists. It's a cute and lovely set made of wood, kids love it. One support of my stable came off and won't reattach perfectly, so it's a little wobbly, and Joseph's staff is going to break sometime, but it was used for two seasons so far and is still intact.

I have an old thread or two posting several ideas for children's nativities, more than you would ever want, but I love thoroughness. Here's the link: http://www.windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=169067&highlight=children%27s+nativity
Plus, some good ones, fabric or wood, here http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/gift_results?page=1221936&sp=86946&event=51500NATIV|1001399|87161
