DH was in his hometown this weekend and went to visit his mom's gravesite. The frames that were on her stone and her mother's stone (they had a picture in them) have been removed and there are now two holes in each stone.

I spoke with the cemetery this morning and they said there has been a lot of vandalism in the area with people removing the frames and selling the bronze for scrap. We have the option to replace the photo without the frame but it cost almost $200 a stone tro do this!

I can't stand the idea of spending MORE money on the stones, but the idea of leaving them vandalized is very unsettling to me as well.

Who does this crap? It's disgusting!

That really sucks!

Call around to some local monument dealers and see what they suggest. They may be able to repair it cheaper than the cemetery and possibly with something that is less likely to be vandalized.

That is deplorable and I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I can't believe anyone would even think to do that. Thats pretty low.

Did you find out the local businesses in your area where those monsters could possibly have sold the frames? You might be able to find them!

That's awful, I'm so sorry.

On a related note, there have been a spate of metal (various types) plaque thefts off of historical buildings both here and in Quebec City in recent years. Being that both cities have buildings dating over 350 years old, there are quite a few of these in the old parts of the cities. Apparently the selling of metal has quite a brisk trade on the black market, so I wouldn't hold out hope being able to trace it. :(

That is terrible! I am sorry you have to go through such a horrible thing. Some people just have no respect.

Let's just hold out hope that what goes around really does come around.

What rotten rat finks to do this.

I have heard about a lot of metal theft recently, so it does not surprise me...still it is very sad.

In this economy, and with metal prices being what they are, I think more of this stuff is going on now.

Kinda makes you wanna go all kung-fu style on whoever did this! HIJAH! Eh, wish I had martial arts training so I could help. :(

So sorry to hear about what happened. I never could understand people vandalizing graveyards.
