What is your favorite gift to give for a boy's first birthday?

For your own child or another child?

Own child/bigger budget:
Walker wagon (Haba, Radio Flyer)
Ball track (Haba or Selecta...the one w/ a bigger sized ball, not marbles)
Rody Pony
first doll
Kinderzeat
Learning Tower
Easel (to grow into a bit)
foot propelled ride-on toy (more to grow into as well)
eta: for DD's first birthday we bought a wooden birthday ring from Spiel und Holz. I bought some decorations to make it suitable for DS as well. I'm hoping they'll use one with their own children one day. Since she has an older brother, she had most of the big stuff already.

Also a play kitchen (again, to grow into if you are okay with that. DS and DD first got interested by 15-18 months but played more from age 2 and above with it)

Someone else's child:
Gertie Ball
O-ball
nice ring stack toy like Holgate or Spiel und Holz
something personalized (especially if child has older siblings)
first doll
basic instrument or two, like a simple drum from Remo or similar
CDs

Someone mentioned recently a program where they fly a flag in the child's name over the Capitol I believe, and then you get the flag for a fee. I think you contact your Congressperson or Representative.

My standard gift is PBKs Alphabet Blocks. They are so cute, and make great stacking toys too!
