Hi all! :)

What are the favorites that really get played with during this stage?

My Mom wants to get a few more classic toddler toys for my (then) 16 month old B/G twins. She is getting the new M&D Bead Maze I posted a while back on the bargains board. They had a lot of fun with it at the store. She was thinking specificaly of Push and Pull type toys and maybe a shape sorter or pounding toy.

Heres what I have so far...FYI-They already have a RF Wagon.

They liked these push toys VERY much in local store:

or

Pull Toy:

or this black dog made by Brio. Seen it recently in Marshalls for cheap. No idea if its a good choice or not though.

ALL the kids in my moms club love the lawn mower push toy that is sold by IKEA. I think it's pretty cheap, and everyone loves it. from the new walkers to the almost-3yo.

My girls love their doll strollers....I have friends who have b/g twins and they ended up getting the boy a stroller too, because it was a big hit with them. I think the pushcarts or grocery carts would also get a lot of play. My kids favorite thing right now is their wooden alphabet puzzles, like this:

They are 26 months now, but have had them for several months.

Hits here that were popular with for both my girls at that age and beyond (ages 4.5 and nearly 2):

doll stroller
Little Tikes shopping cart
Kidcraft dollhouse
doll cradle & highchair
Barbies
Corolle dolls (Calin and 14" Vanilla toddler dolls)
Fisher Price Little People sets (we have the farm and the castle)

I have quite a few M&D and other brand wooden toys and puzzles. Frankly, they get hardly any play time.

If you aren't opposed to plastic or noise, the FP ball popper (the sound of that would likely drive me nuts, personally!)

Small table top kitchen set (Alex, Melissa and Doug, Haba, maybe Erzi all makes ones at various price points)

Remo drum?

Spiel und Holz makes some beautiful classic stuff (stacking rainbows, nesting bowls, etc.) depending on budget.

doll and stroller (build a bear has one around $10, and the Maclaren doll strollers get good reviews and are inexpensive).

foot propelled ride on (we have the old version of the RF tiny trike type of thing). DD has enjoyed this from 13-14 months maybe, and my DS (almost 5) will still ride it around the house.

Toy vacuum?

eta: tent/tunnel set (if there is enough space) from Ikea or Ryan's Room.

This is not a classic toy, and it is a big huge piece of plastic (you can use without the batteries, though), but my twins LOVED the Laugh and Learn Learning Home from about that age until about 2.5 (we had to move it for space reasons). at almost 3, they saw it at a friends and played with it a lot. It is great for twins because it is big enough to play together without really getting in each other's way.

Hi Review Mommy!

DD at that age really enjoyed:

M&D large carboard blocks
Fisher Price classic shape sorter
Jack In the Box
Play Food
Dress Up necklaces and bracelets (Mardi Gra beads were a hit)
M&D band in a box
small plastic animal figures
Hot Wheel cars & road mat thingy from Discovery Toys
stacking cups from Discovery Toys
doll stroller
large knob puzzles
Leap Frog music table (noisy and plastic but she loved that thing)

If I think of some others I'll add on. Hope that helps!

Jenny

I was watching a youtube video of a child playing with the IKEA toy. It looked really cool but I'm just wondering if it is as cool on carpet. He was playing with it instore and our home is entirely carpet. Yuck-I know...

Anyone have the wheely bug thing? Mom is deciding over that and the RF Scoot about which is adjustable.

I cannot tell you how much my children played with this. It was a favorite from 8 months until they were past 3.
Seriously, it was like crack. I never expected this toy to be such a hit, but it was.

Also, that mudpuppy pull toy bites. It really does always fall over and just get dragged. I see them on clearance all the time.

Yeah, the Laugh and Learn Home is a huge hit here, too. DS got it 4 years ago and we'll pull it out again for DS2 soon. It's in the basement now and DS1 still plays with it when he's down there. Crazy how much they love it. Huge piece of plastic, but fabulous toy.

I have the wheely bug. I purchased it for my daughter for her first birthday. She loves to scoot around the kitchen on it (it does great on hardwood floors). In the beginning, her brothers used to help push her around. She would just smile and laugh. She is almost two and still rides it quite a bit. In fact my 4 year old loves it. He loves to push off and zoom across the hardwood floor. Oh my :)

I was so hesitant to get the laugh and learn home, but I saw it in a second hand store for super cheap. The kids (6 year old and toddler) love to play with it. It's a great toy for children to play together with. I'd recommend checking out a children's resale store for anyone interested - there were 3 when I went.
