Our family is having a "cookie throwdown/bakeoff" at the family holiday party. Anyone have a really AWESOME cookie recipe?

Tx!

this is the cookie recipe that EVERYONE asks me for!

Cream together:
1 cup butter (2 sticks) softened or melted
1 ½ cups brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg

Mix the following then add to the wet ingredients:
2 cups unbleached flour
1 ts baking soda
½ ts salt
1 ts cinnamon
1 ts ginger

Fold in
1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
1 12oz package chocolate chips
1 ts vanilla extract

Powdered sugar

Make 1 inch balls and roll in powdered sugar. Chill for several hours
before cooking (or freeze on a cookie sheet and use later). Bake on a
greased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes at 375 (10+ mins if frozen).
Remove from oven before they look done, while still a little poofy and
not too browned.

note: i often bake without chilling, but they spread out a lot more... so i would chill for your contest batch : ) i also like a little extra cinnamon and ginger.
