Mounted baby gate question

I just purchased and installed an Evenflow model 10502 gate for the top of a set of stairs in my house. The top of the gate has a box that the gate locks into, but the bottom box is only one sided. My son has been pulling on the bottom of the gate - it doesn't have enough give that he can fit through it, but this seems to be a design flaw in my opinion. Can you tell me what the bottom of your gate looks like? What brand/model do you have?
