What size marbles for Haba Ball Track?

We have one waiting under the tree at Grandma's... DH thinks we should order some other marbles that MIGHT not have lead/ cadmium in them... the poison you don't know vs. the one you do, I guess?

Are they the same size as the classic playing marbles (pee wees I think are 5/8 inch) or larger?

They seem to be on the smaller size, but not by much. I know that the marbles we had in a cheapie bag of marbles are a little bit bigger than the marbles from the ball track.

I just told DH about the haba marbles last night and we need to figure out what to do for replacements. It's especially difficult, as you mentioned, b/c it's not like I know the chemical composition of any other marbles/beads/ball bearings/whatever that we could use as replacements.

I'll try to pull out the marbles later and measure them.

Michael's has bags of little wooden balls in the unfinished wood section--would those work?
